The Retroid Pocket Nova's Price Will Rise To Combat Qualcomm Price Increases

I am always excited for new handhelds, but it’s been a while since I’ve been overwhelmingly looking forward to one in particular. However, that change with the Retroid Pocket Nova. The 4:3 handhelds have started growing on me, thanks to the AYANEO Pocket AIR Mini, but the Nova has some big improvements, including a more powerful chip and OLED screen. However, due to component costs rising, it’s going to be a little bit more expensive to own.

Starting tomorrow, the Pocket Nova’s 8GB RAM + 128GB SSD configuration will be increasing by $10. This is due to Qualcomm increasing the prices of their chips in September, which will ultimately trickle down in price increases for most devices using them. It seems Retroid is getting ahead of the curve, so they are increasing the prices now from $229 and $234, to $239 and $244.

Thankfully, it’s not a massive price increase, but it is still a price increase. It feels like most devices are getting price increases after launching due to their component cost rising consistently. We’ve seen this with the Steam Deck and a multitude of other retro devices, and I wouldn’t be surprised if this isn’t the last we hear of it.

Even with the higher price, the Pocket Nova is still a pretty great deal. For the power and form factor, as well as an OLED screen, it’s a pretty amazing deal. Of course, the best time to pick it up would be before tomorrow, so you can lock in the current price, but even if it’s $10 more, I would still pick it up.
