System Shock has been one of my favorite games to play on the Steam Deck since it was released last year, and I always recommend it for a plethora of reasons. Well, it looks like I will have to add another reason to the list since the next update coming next week will bring with it some major improvements that will make playing on the Steam Deck so much better.

Looking over the changelog, we have a couple of specific additions that should make our experience so much better. We have better gamepad implementation and handling, cloud save support, and some major optimizations across the entirety of the game, which will improve performance across the board on the Steam Deck. System Shock was already a blast to play on the go, so these improvements solidify how necessary this game is to have in your Steam Deck libraries.

There is a bit more to this update as well, outside of the Deck improvements. We can now change to a female hacker, the final battle has been completely reworked, some enemies have new attacks, Mission waypoints have been implemented for easy difficulty, Recycle Station's size has been increased with a bigger max payout, pathfinding has been improved, and there have been a ton of general balance tweaks and adjustments.

You can check them all out for yourself in the full changelog on the Steam Community Post.

System Shock is currently available for $39.99 with a Steam Deck Playable rating. But don't let this rating fool you, it is an incredible experience already on the Deck, and it's about to get a whole lot better. The new update will be released on April 11th.
