Minecraft Dungeons 2 Is Now Playable on the Steam Deck

I know Mojang is massive, but I definitely didn’t expect them to work this fast. Recently, Minecraft Dungeons 2 was released, meanwhile, I did enjoy the game per my review, it wasn’t playable on the Steam Deck. It would fail to launch, keeping itself on a black screen when trying to install Microsoft Game Services. However, it just got a new update that makes it finally playable on the Steam Deck, and I couldn’t be more excited.

The new update, which was released earlier today, comes after Mojang responded to a public feature request to make it compatible with the Deck. This update does exactly that; it makes it so we can actually boot the game up and play on the device. The update announcement does mention that there may be some issues, like needing to manually bring up the virtual keyboard, but they will be coming in a future update to get that Verified badge. I’m overjoyed that they were able to fix it and get it in so quickly, so I went right back in to boot up the game and see what kind of performance we can get.

And, as I theorized in my review, it performs magically. At the default settings, which stick to Medium, the game runs at above 60 FPS, averaging around 70-80. It stays that way during combat, when there are effects on the screen, and when fighting a bunch of enemies at once. On top of that, with the larger text and closer camera distance, it feels right at home.

I’m surprised that the team was able to get it out so fast, but I’m even more surprised at just how great it feels to play this way. I will be playing it more and giving recommendations in my full review, but for now, I can confidently say that this is a great experience on the Steam Deck, and I can’t wait to see it get that Verified badge.
