I have been quite excited for Subnautica 2. The follow-up to one of my favorite survival games is almost here, and I have been extremely excited to play. Two days ago, we covered one of their most recent dev vlogs, where they said the game should be good to go on the Steam Deck. It seems like Valve agrees with this, because yesterday, the game got its very own Steam Deck Verified badge.

With the Verified badge, the game officially has Valve’s seal of approval. This note that the game’s text should be legible, the default controller configuration and graphical settings work well, and that it shows the correct controller icons for the Deck’s gamepad. It also knows that the game may not default to external controllers, so we may have to manually switch it over in the quick access menu.
While the Verified system isn’t always the most reliable, it is a good way to see if a game should work on the Deck. With how the developers portrayed how it could run well on the Steam Deck, I do have a lot of hope. I think there are going to be compromises for sure, but I think we will be able to get 30 FPS with lower settings. I wouldn’t expect anything higher yet, but with the game in early access, I can see it only getting better.

Subnautica 2 can be wishlisted on Steam ahead of its May 14th release.
