The Steam Machine and Steam Frame Verified Systems Are Here, With Hardware Aiming For A Summer Release

While it isn’t perfect, the Steam Deck’s Verified system is a good way to see which games may or may not run on the Deck. Valve checks to see if each of the games passes certain requirements to know whether it is Verified, Playable with minor issues, or Unsupported. Today, Valve has officially expanded the Verified system to cover their new hardware, the Steam Machine and the Steam Frame, both with their own checks to ensure we will know which games will be playable on the hardware.

The Steam Machine’s Verified system is quite similar to the Steam Deck. Almost all the requirements are nearly identical, except for where performance issues on the Deck will be retested due to the Steam Machine’s more powerful hardware. Otherwise, all the requirements are generally the same, like the default controller configuration and default graphical quality settings both working well out of the box.

The Steam Frame’s Verified system is a bit different, and the system is tailored to what it would be like downloading and playing the games natively on the Frame. The requirements are similar, focusing on default configurations and text and UI size, but it is tailored to the Steam Frame’s controllers, UI, and hardware. Most Steam Deck Verified games will automatically be Verified on the Steam Machine, but the same can’t be said about the Frame.

There’s also been an update to the partner dashboard on the back end to check each of these devices and their Verified systems.

On top of that, this announcement also confirmed that Valve is still planning on releasing the Steam Machine and Steam Frame this summer. At the bottom of the post, they mention that they are excited for people to try out the hardware when they launch this summer, which could mean we will be seeing the new hardware within the next 3 months. And if Geoff Keighley’s vague Twitter/X post means anything, it’s possible we could even see an announcement during tomorrow’s Summer Game Fest showcase.
