RetroDECK Announces Cloud Save Tools Coming To Next Major Update

Emulating games on the Steam Deck is one of the best parts about having a handheld PC. And to streamline the process, RetroDECK is available. It’s extremely easy to download from the Discover Store, and it has specifically curated the tools in there to make sure retro gaming is made easy. The project has come a long way, growing from emulation to supporting anything retro, and the next major update is going to be adding some great new features.

In a new blog post this month, the team unveiled that they are going to be including ways to back up saves and utilize a cloud save system. To do this, they are implementing two new programs: Ludusavi and Grout. Ludusavi is a great tool to back up saves, and if tailored well by the team, it could present a great way to keep saves synced with all the devices you want it to be synced with. This will require a little bit of manual setup on other devices, but if the RetroDECK team can configure it, well, it should be a great way to back up saves or even your entire library. Grout is another option that could be used with your own hosted RomM server, which should present another way to continue progress across devices.

It’s worth noting that RetroDECK is not going to be providing its own hosting solution, only using free tools. This is so the program continues to be completely free, which is a core tenet of the team. So, they will provide all the tools necessary for us to set it up ourselves.

The team also went into detail about their next client component they are going to be adding: Satellaview+. This client revives Satellaview to allow players to enjoy the exclusive games and magazines that were part of the original release. On top of that, there are new broadcast features, which is a nice touch. To access games, you’re going to have to check their broadcasting schedule and connect at the right time, and while it sounds limiting, it’s part of what makes it so unique.

So far, that’s all they unveiled in this post, but it’s just another look at how big the next update is going to be. In the previous post, they went into how they are adding more modular components, pipeline changes, and Mudlet for Multi-User Dungeon games. For now, the team is going to be taking a break for the summer, but hopefully we will be seeing this big update once they come back.
