Linux Grows to 2% Usage In October 2024 Steam Hardware Survey

A couple of days ago, Valve revealed last month's Steam Hardware and Software survey. The survey, which is conducted monthly, collects data about what hardware and software is being used with Steam, and gives us a look about what the most popular devices are that are using Steam. This also gives us a look to see if Steam Deck use is growing, and from what we can tell so far, it is growing nicely.

According to the survey, Linux usage has actually grown by 0.13%, breaking into the 2% range. While this may seem small, Windows usually holds a big dominance, and Linux regularly sticks below 2%.

We can also look more in-depth and see the specifics of the Linux software and hardware being used, and there are some interesting finds. SteamOS actually went down by 2.41%, but is still the most used OS at 36.79%. On the other hand, the video card for the Steam Deck, which is Custom GPU 0405, was actually up by 9.76%. This could indicate that people are trying out other operating systems on the Steam Deck, but it's interesting regardless.

Overall, this is an interesting find, and I love seeing that Linux percentage grow! I am a huge fan of the Linux OS after using the Steam Deck, and I hope that this month helps it grow even more.
