Heroic Launcher Adds Proton-CachyOS With New Hotfix

I love playing games on my SteamOS devices, but one of my favorite parts is being able to expand and play other games that aren’t on Steam. One of the best tools to do that with is the Heroic Launcher. This is a community-made launcher that allows us to download and play games from Epic Games, GOG, and Amazon Prime through it. It’s one of my go-to programs for playing games this way, and it just got a new hotfix with some nice improvements and new compatibility layers.

One of my favorite changes was adding Proton-CachyOS to the layers that we can install through the program. This is a specific version of Proton maintained by the developers behind CachyOS, and it includes a lot of extra features and patches that Valve’s Proton doesn’t have. Now, we can install it easily through the Heroic Launcher, and it has become the default Proton layer used by the program.

On top of that, navigating the Epic and GOG stores with a control controller has been improved, the program will now create a compatibilitytools.d folder if it doesn’t exist yet, GreenManGaming and Humble Bundle deals have been added to the discount screen, Electron has been updated to version 43, and we have a bunch of small improvements like fixing descriptions for Game Arguments and moving options around.

This was designed to be a hotfix while the team works on some of the bigger changes coming to the launcher, including itch.io support, Humble Bundle and Steam integration, and a new plugin system that will make it more accessible to add extra features like emulator support. It all sounds extremely exciting, and with this update, we are inching closer and closer to the bigger features coming soon.
