God of War Ragnarok's PC release is quickly approaching, and we couldn't be more excited to see it coming. The game is fantastic and such a satisfying continuation and conclusion to what began in the reboot of the fantastic series. Today, we got the specs for the upcoming release, and while it seems like it may not run on the Steam Deck, I am left with optimism as I look over what parts are needed to run the game well.

Looking at the minimum requirements, which were posted on the PlayStation Blog today, we do have a hefty GPU requirement with an NVIDIA GTX 1060 or AMD RX 5500 XT. For the Steam Deck, playing games with a GPU requirement like this can be a bit hard to run. The CPU and RAM requirements are within the Steam Deck's area of performance, But the graphic setting is being estimated for 1080p resolutions with a 30 FPS average. On the Steam Deck, we will be playing at 1280x800 resolution at the highest, which is below 1080p. This could mean that the GPU requirement may be slightly less, making it much more playable on Steam Deck.
On top of that, we do have FSR 3.1 and XeSS 1.3 upscaling included in the game, both of which could help out a lot with performance. This also includes frame generation technology, which leaves open the possibility of pushing to 60 FPS if the game performs well enough. I don't expect it to actually be able to achieve 60 this way, but it's still very exciting to think about. The spec list doesn't include upscaling either, which means God of War Ragnarok will more than likely be playable.
I did look through the blog post to see if there were any mentions of handhelds or portable play, but nothing was mentioned. This does concern me a little, and with PlayStation requiring a PSN account along with their overlay not being compatible with Linux, I do feat the game won't be playable on the Steam Deck. It also has a 190GB install size, which is massive.
I do want to air on the optimistic side since the specs make it seem like it will be very playable on the go. Hopefully, we will be able to, and I can't wait to replay the series fully on the go!
God of War Ragnarok can be pre-purchased on Steam for $59.99 ahead of its release on September 19th.

Dont even bother running this on the deck, just like GOW 2018 this is much likely gonna be crashing all the time if running at all. Still think its inaccurate it has gotten the verified badge too just as this one is probably gonna get it while no1 is gonna mention the memory leaks and frequent crashes nor will anyone care about fixing any of these unsolved issues.
Too bad theres also no mention about any of these issues in Noah Kupetsky's review of the 2018 game, only noting that ''It does still have framerate spikes and some bugs'' which is all theres being mentioned unfortunately.
Worth noting too, GOW Ragnarok:"*Account for PlayStation Network is required.
The issues with GoW 2018 weren't ones I experienced, but I do agree that they are alarming. As soon as we have time, we will go back and re-evaluate our review. I do have mixed feelings with Valve's Verified system, so I share the inaccuracy sentiment.
As for Ragnarok, I did note that the PSN account is required, but I am hopeful that it will only be for account linking and not the PSN Overlay, which is not compatible with Linux.

Due to PSN account being a strict requirement for a single player game, I can't buy it in my region. Guess the yo-ho-ho version is the only one available for me. Sad, as the prequel GOW was bought by me on Steam for 34$ just to play it on GFN while it was still available for streaming there.
I wonder how much revenue Sony have won by cutting options to buy and play their games.
