Disney Shows Its Steam Deck Animatronic Controller In New Video

It’s no secret that the Steam Deck can be used for more than just gaming. It’s an entire PC in the palm of your hands, so we can use it to browse, watch, and so much more. We’ve also seen it applied in multiple different ways for different companies, and one of those is Disney. There have been multiple pictures and videos showing animatronics being controlled remotely by a Deck. However, a new video was released that shows the Steam Deck front and center for Disney Imagineering.

A few days ago, Walt Disney Imagineering posted a new video about what it takes to be a Disney Imagineer. In it, they go over what it takes to be one and the values that they have, and in the middle of the video, we can see someone holding a Steam Deck in Plainview to control an Olaf animatronic. This is at the 2:20 mark of the video.

It doesn’t show up again, but we can clearly see the screen. It shows the Walt Disney Imagineering wallpaper, along with an identifier to show which animatronic it’s linked to. The device is clearly still using SteamOS, and there looks to be some special programs on the desktop. It doesn’t reveal too much, but it’s still cool to see it in plain view.

Despite us using the Deck primarily for gaming, I do find it intriguing to see the other use cases for it. Whether it’s controlling animatronics or just setting up a cool feature from desktop, the ways we can use the device grow more and more each day.
