Clockwork Labs revealed that BitCraft Online, a new survival crafting MMO experience, is set to release in early access on Steam on June 20th. This fully remote game development studio also unveiled that they will be open-sourcing their game. This allows players, hobbyists, and developers to cooperate and take part in their expansive in-game ecosystem.

Players can contribute to a civilization in this massive, living sandbox world of BitCraft Online. Not only can they write their legacies, but also construct cities and navigate through ancient ruins. The unique backend enables a fully editable and collaborative environment. Players can choose to become a farmer, an adventurer, a city builder, a trader, or a merchant in BitCraft Online. Clockwork Labs is taking a rare and refreshing step towards true transparency by open-sourcing their code behind BitCraft Online.

You can sign up for BitCraft Online Playtest via Steam by clicking the Request Access button on the game's page.
Tyler Cloutier, co-founder of Clockwork Labs, said that “The ethos behind BitCraft Online has always been about one core principle: collaboration. This is a massive in-game ecosystem, where we encourage players to work together to build towns, cities, or even empires. So to truly empower our community, it was important to ensure that the game would be open-source, allowing players to express themselves in their own unique way. We want to give our community not only the toolset to play within our world, but to participate in building it. Open-sourcing is more than just a technical decision—it's a philosophical one.”
