Update 12/10/24 - Valve is now officially selling the refurbished Steam Deck OLED models. They can be purchased on Steam.

The Steam Deck is already an inexpensive handheld when compared to its competition, and being able to get one for around $400 is a steal. To make it even cheaper, Valve has also sold refurbished versions of the original Steam Deck that use LCD screens, and the price has gone down to under $280, which still blows my mind. Currently, the new OLED units don't have any cheaper refurbished models for them, but in a new update that was caught on SteamDB, we may see these models soon.

Caught and posted on Twitter/X by Brad Lynch (@SadlyItsBradley), there was an update that was pushed to the Refurbished Steam Deck App. He posted a picture of the change, which you can find directly on SteamDB, showing the change made to the Steam Deck - Valve Certified Refurbished and Steam Deck Apps.

Here are links to the two new packages in question:

At first, I was a bit skeptical of this myself, but after some investigating, I think the idea of OLED models getting refurbished versions has some merit. There hasn't been any update to the refurbished models for 9 months, and with two new packages being made, this could reflect the two OLED models that currently exist. On top of that, we have the timing right before the holidays and the Steam Winter Sale, so I could absolutely see this being planned perfectly for the end of the year.

If my hunch is correct, Valve would more than likely publicize this soon to make sure people can get it for Christmas, and I look forward to seeing exactly what they will be priced at. I took a look at the 256GB unit, which is still being sold while having a refurbished counterpart, and it took a 20% cut down from $399 to $319. If the OLED units do something similar, we would see the 512GB unit priced at $439, while the 1TB unit would be priced at $519. And those prices would be incredible for the value the device can bring!
