Last week, we had a ton of amazing new indie releases, and to complement that, we had a lot of great new Steam Deck Verified/Playable games! Animal Well is one of our favorite games that released, and it got that wonderful green checkmark, upcoming superhero X-Com-esque game Capes got Verified badge, and Athena Crisis, an Advanced Wars-like title, got the Playable badge!

Here are the 10 highlights we found:

Verified or Playable games don't automatically mean they work amazing out of the box. Some of these games may require work to optimize and play well. Here are our thoughts on the Verified system and how it can be fixed.

Animal Well (Verified) (SDHQ Review)

Explore a dense, interconnected labyrinth, and unravel its many secrets. Collect items to manipulate your environment in surprising and meaningful ways. Encounter beautiful and unsettling creatures, as you attempt to survive what lurks in the dark. There is more than what you see.

The game is on a 10% sale for $22.49 and is Verified. We also reviewed the game, and with some changes, it is a flawless experience on the Steam Deck with an extremely low battery drain.

The Thaumaturge (Verified) (SDHQ Review)

The Thaumaturge is a story-driven RPG with morally ambiguous choices, taking place in the culturally diverse world of early 20th-century Warsaw. In this world, salutors exist: esoteric beings that only thaumaturges can truly perceive and use for their needs.

The game is $34.99 and is Verified.

Berserk Boy (Playable) (SDHQ Review)

BERSERK BOY is a high speed action packed Platformer, with Metroidvania elements. Packed with vibrant and stylish pixel art. Go Berserk! as you change into different forms and use the power of Lightning, Fire, Ice, Air, and Earth to save the planet!

The game is $20 and rated Playable due to needing to set the display resolution manually.

Capes (Verified)

Capes is a turn based superhero strategy game where you build a team of heroes and fight to take back the city. Played across a series of campaign and patrol missions, choose to push forward with the story or take the time to explore the side missions and unlock more heroes, earn skill points and complete challenges, and learn more about your heroes lives.

The game will be released on May 29th and is rated Verified.

Athena Crisis (Playable)

Athena Crisis is a modern retro turn-based strategy game that places you in command of 40+ units in your journey across the multiverse. Embark on a challenging single-player quest or dive into the thrill of ranked or casual multiplayer modes to become the best Athena Crisis player!

The game is 20% off for $15.99 until May 23rd and is rated Playable due to needing a community controller configuration and needing to manually bring up the virtual keyboard to enter text.

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles (Playable)

Bulwark: Falconeer Chronicles is an open world building sandbox that focuses on freedom and discovery, allowing players to build sprawling towns, spires and fortresses, in a rich oceanic steampunk setting, supported with exploration and light strategy elements.

The game is 20% off at $15.99 until May 22nd and is rated Playable due to small in-game text.

Trappist (Playable)

Welcome to Trappist-1, 40.7 light-years from Earth. Fly your Ark, a colossal spaceship and mobile base. Explore the solar system and establish thriving colonies. Uncover the mysteries of Trappist in this story-driven colony builder.

The game is $14.99 and is rated Playable due to small in-game text, needing to manually bring up the virtual keyboard, showing incorrect controller icons, and needing a community controller configuration.

King of the Bridge (Playable)

Face off against the bridge troll in his bizarre game of chess! Decrypt, Twist and Enforce the rules as your devious opponent attempts to break them in King of the Bridge!

The game is $2.99 and rated Playable due to needing to set the display resolution manually, showing incorrect controller icons, and small in-game text.

Populous The Beginning (Playable)

In the third part of the Populous series, you control your shaman and the tribe of her followers in a difficult quest to conquer all 25 planets of a star system and ascend to godhood.

The game is $1.99 and rated Playable due to small in-game text, needing a community controller configuration, showing incorrect controller icons, and needing to manually set the display resolution.

Empires Shall Fall (Verified)

Empires Shall Fall is a turn-based tactics game set in a dieselpunk world. Upgrade your army and command your troops, then exploit terrain to eradicate your enemies with sheer power and sharp tactics.

The game is 20% off at $10.39 until May 15th and is rated Verified.
