heroic games launcher

Today, a new version of the Heroic Games Launcher was released! Version 2.12.0, also known as "Vegapunk," was brought out into the wild, and while it didn't add any significant new features, it does add a lot of nice improvements and updates that make using the open-source launcher much easier.

For those who don't know what the Heroic Games Launcher is, it is a way to play games from your Epic, GOG, and Amazon Prime libraries easily on the Steam Deck or any Linux OS. Once you install it, which you can do from the Discover Store on the Deck, you just have to log in to each account, and all your games will show up. From there, you just download and install whichever games you want, select a proton layer, and you are ready!

The new update can be downloaded from their Github release page or directly from the Discover Store.

So, let's get into the update. There have been a lot of fixes that came from this, but some nice little additions make organizing and usability much better. With this update, you can alphabetically sort any games you favor, EOS overlay is installed by default, and the launcher will now support Epic's launch-able addons or DLC. There have also been some wonderful UI enhancements, like an accessibility option to disable closing dialogs, improvements with controller navigation in the menus, and a progress bar in the taskbar for app activity.

There are many more fixes and such, which I will list below, but in the end, it is fantastic seeing how much work is going into the launcher. I use it quite often to test Epic games, and I love the easy access to all the Amazon Prime games I keep redeeming, though I never play them.
