So without any further ado, here's all the news you'll need to know from the Day of the Devs 2024 Showcase!

Narrative Horror, Karma: The Dark World, Will Bring a Terrifying Experience to Steam

Karma: The Dark World is a first-person cinematic psychological thriller set in a dystopian world where the Leviathan Corporation is omnipresent. The year is 1984, the place is East Germany, and things are not quite what they seem.

You are Daniel, a Roam Agent for Leviathan’s Thought Bureau, and you have been brought in to investigate actions that have happened in a very specific moment in time. A moment that opens the mind to a world of espionage and betrayal, littered with deep and dark secrets.

The corporation has the ability to dive into the memories of the city's inhabitants, what will you find lurking deep in their minds?

UFO 50 is a Collection of 50 Inter-connected Games, Coming September 18th!

UFO 50 is a collection of 50 single and multiplayer (half of the games feature multiplayer) games from the creators of Spelunky, Downwell, and Catacomb Kids. Explore a variety of genres, from platformers and shoot 'em ups to puzzle games, roguelites, and RPGs. Their goal is to combine a familiar 8-bit aesthetic with new ideas and modern game design. UFO 50 itself follows the story of a fictional game development company from 1982-1990, with their games getting progressively more advanced as time goes on. Seems pretty interesting! It launches on September 18th!

At Summer Game Fest, Noah Kupetsky was on site and able to try out UFO 50, and had a couple of thoughts:

I didn't get to play all 50 games that are a part of this one, but it shcked me at how different and independent each of the games I did play felt. From a weird RPG-ish puzzle game where you take control of a golf ball to an arcade-style title where you have to pick up a soccer ball and kick it into enemies to destroy them. It really feels like each game is an experience in itself, so putting 50 of these into 1 collection is super cool. The devs clearly worked very hard to make each of these titlees within UFO 50 and it feels like it's going to really pay off.

Head On a Musical Journey with Koira, Launching in 2025, With a Demo this Summer!

Koira is a heartwarming tale where you find, befriend, and protect a new puppy from danger. Traverse a musical forest, solve ancient puzzles, meet woodland creatures, and try to guide your new friend back home. Discover your untapped powers and learn the true value of friendship.

There's no dialogue or text in Koira, the game expresses itself through the medium of music, even the characters in the game speak through musical instruments.

A demo is launching in the Summer, with the full game releasing next year.

Arranger is a Tile-Based Puzzling Adventure Coming to Steam on July 25th, Demo Out Now

Arranger: A Role-Puzzling Adventure follows the story of Jemma, a small-town misfit on a journey of self-discovery. Venturing out beyond her stiflingly cozy confines, she finds an inspiring world - but also one ruled by fear, and a strange, immovable ‘static’ force. Can she disrupt a culture of stagnation, and find a place to fit into it?

The game has full controller support and has already been Verified on Steam Deck through Valve's testing, so we can be pretty sure that this one will play well on the Steam Deck when it launches this July 25th.

Fear The Spotlight is Coming to Steam... Again... This Fall

We saw Fear the Spotlight briefly in the Summer Game Fest event when Blumhouse Games announced they were publishing 6 new Horror games, but at Day of the Devs, we were treated to an extended look at the game.

Now you might be a little confused, perhaps you've even played this game before on Steam. Well, you might well have done. This game actually came out back in September 2023 but was pulled shortly thereafter in November 2023, it turns out that was because Blumhouse Games have since provided the developers with funding, so they pulled the game from Steam and are taking the time to rework it and port it to consoles, before re-releasing the game in the Fall of 2024.

The game is already Steam Deck Verified from its original release, and will probably continue to be Verified when it launches again in the Fall.

Noah did get a chance to play this at Summer Game Fest as well, and will have his full thoughts on it in an independent article.

Experience a Unique Blend of 2D and 3D Gameplay in Screenbound, Coming Soon

In Screenbound you're playing a first-person platformer and a 2D platformer at the same time.

Levels created in the 2D plane will be recreated in the 3D, then, as you move and solve puzzles in the 3D realm, you'll need to keep an eye on your handheld device showing you the 2D realm, enemies for example, only appear in 2D, while certain puzzle elements are only in 3D. So stay on your toes and pay attention!

The game has partial controller support and the system requirements are low, so the Steam Deck should be able to handle this one.

Zoochosis Invites you to Become a Night Zookeeper in this Horror Game, Coming This Summer

The animals in this zoo are infected and some are turning into mutants. It's up to you as the Night Zookeeper to save them and save yourself. Unravel the mystery of the zoo. Choose wisely. Your choices will determine how this all ends.

Interact with the animals, take care of them, choose and prepare a meal for them, restock, and clean up after them in the enclosure. And most important of all, survive the night.

Zoochosis is launching this Summer, the system requirements are within the Steam Deck's reach, but we'll have to see about controller support, as that isn't confirmed yet.

While Waiting is a Game About... Waiting... and We're Waiting for the Release Date

While Waiting is a game that aims to explore the art of waiting. Clear the game by doing nothing, but discover the power of acceptance and patience in numerous situations from birth to death. Learn to embrace life as you wait.

It's not quite as boring as it sounds though, there are over 100 hand-made levels, and as you are waiting for things to happen, there is a checklist of secrets and easter eggs you can find in each level to keep you entertained. There's also a little button you can click repeatedly in the corner of the screen to stop you from going insane. 🙂

Noah was able to play this one at the Day of the Devs booth at Summer Game Fest as well:

It took me a moment to get really into While Waiting in my short time with it, but I found myself enjoying the game in the end. I was a bit off-put by how slow your character walks, and as someone who usually likes to get to the action or have more going on, it wasn't a great start. But as soon as I started inteacting with the world and trying to solve puzzles to figure out other things to do while waiting for the bus or the rain to stop, I started to really enjoy it. It will definitely be a game with an acquired taste, but it feels like if you put in the time, you will be rewarded.

Psychroma is a Narrative Side-Scrolling Horror Coming Soon to Steam

In Psychroma you play as a digital medium. You'll have to confront the past by piecing together the broken memories of past residents of this cybernetic house in a run-down dystopian Toronto, and then exorcise the ghosts in the machine.

Prepare to solve puzzles and learn about a diverse cast of characters when Psychroma launches on Steam in the future. The game does have controller support and easy-to-run system requirements, so there's no reason why the Steam Deck shouldn't handle this.

Play as a House... Looking for Relationships... in Building Relationships

As a new arrival to the island, you're here to meet other single buildings in your area and find the love of your life! Experience a one-of-a-kind story with a unique cast of structures as you explore life as a building.

It seems like exploration will be a pretty big part of Building Relationships, and while there is a "dating" element to the game, the developer assures us it isn't a "dating sim", and is closer to "A Short Hike, but stupid". So we presume this game is going to be on the short side, but it might be entertaining for an afternoon.

The game has full controller support and judging by how it looks, it's probably fairly easy to run, so if you want to play as a building, you most likely can do so on your Steam Deck!

Oh yes, Noah was also able to play this one at Sumemr Game Fest:

Of all the trailers in the Day of the Devs showcase, this was the one I was most interested in. It was such a crazy and weird concept, and I was completely intrigued. In my time with it, I rolled around as a house and met multiple other buildings to befriend, mingle, and hopefully find some love. Though, towards the end of my time, there were a couple of key words that stuck out and make me feel like there is something else going on underneath the surface. The house is a little hard to control at times, which makes sense, but I am really looking forward to seeing more from this one.

A Little to the Left is Getting More DLC in the Form of 'Seeing Stars', Launches June 25th

A Little to the Left is a cozy puzzle game that has you sort, stack, and organize household items into pleasing arrangements while you keep an eye out for a mischievous cat with an inclination for chaos.

There are over 100 satisfying messes to tidy in the base game, and the 1st DLC, Cupboards & Drawers is already out, but Seeing Stars will add 38 new levels to the bunch, with over 100 stars to collect as you find different arrangements for these household items.

The game is Verified on the Steam Deck.

Get Trapped in the Coziest Time-loop in Hello Again, Coming in 2025

Hello Again is a puzzling adventure game set on an island filled with ancient ruins. With a strong focus on exploration, you'll be finding strange structures, solving clockwork puzzles, and befriending cute characters to uncover the island's secrets and break the loop.

Use your knowledge gained from the time loop to help or manipulate the island's residents, discover the history of the island, and eventually escape. There's no word on controller support or system requirements, but it doesn't look like this game would struggle with a controller layout or heavy system requirements, so we might be in luck for playing this on the Steam Deck.

Play as an Obsessive Stalker in Tom the postgirl, Coming Soon to Steam

There were plenty of horror games shown at the Summer Game Fest and Day of the Devs, but I feel like Tom the postgirl is pretty up there on the weird factor. In the game, you play as Tom, a postgirl who is obsessed with spying on the village's residents while delivering her parcels.

As you play through the game, you'll discover strange and disturbing goings-on in the village, but will you resist the urge to look in the packages?

There's no mention of controller support here, but the system requirements are no problem for the Steam Deck.

Explore a Story of Love, Loss, and Grief in After Love EP, Releasing Later This Year. Demo Out Now

After Love EP was the game that the creator of Coffee Talk Episode 1 was working on when he passed away in March 2022. After Love EP is a slice-of-life adventure set in modern Jakarta about love, loss, and finding your own way forward. Step into the shoes of Rama, a young musician who is struggling to move on with life after the death of his girlfriend, Cinta.

The game will have full controller support, and the system requirements are low, so you likely won't have any issues playing this likely moving game on the Steam Deck. A demo is available now.

After Love EP is a beautiful game. While playing it at Summer Game Fest, I got to walk around the world, talk to people, and hear some of the wonderful voice acting. The game takes place in Jakarta, Indonesia, which is where I currently live, and I was able to point out areas and buildings I actually recogized (looking at you Indomay). It's very stylized and I think will definitely ppeal to those who love more laid back, heavier story experiences, and I am happily one of them!

Phoenix Springs is a Uniquely-Styled Point & Click Game Coming September 16th

In Phoenix Springs, a point-and-click with a striking art style, you'll play as the reporter Iris Dormer, who has reconnected with her estranged brother and finds herself in Phoenix Springs, a desert oasis home to an enigmatic community. As she explores ancient ruins and interrogates a rich cast of characters, she must uncover the mysteries that connect the place, the myths, and herself.

The game will have full voice acting, and the system requirements are very low. Although the game doesn't have controller support, we imagine a mouse is the way to play a point-and-click, and so the touchpad on the Steam Deck should be ideal for this one.

This was the last game I was able to play while I was in LA, and it's the one that gave me the most internal conflicting feeling. I respect point and click titles a lot, but I am not usually a fan. I easily get lost and confused, not knowing where to click next. Yet, with Phoenix Springs, I was caaptivated by the style and really interested in the story. Did I still get lost? Yes, I did. But I was able to get through it, and the setting, coupled with the intriguing narrative and great voice acting, made me want to come back for more. I can't wait for September!

Tides of Tomorrow is a New Adventure from the Makers of Road 96

Tides of Tomorrow brings a unique adventure that takes place on the world of Elynd, a planet on the verge of extinction due to plastification.

As you explore Elynd you’ll encounter a diverse cast of characters. Each one has their own moods, motivations, and perspectives on the planet’s fortunes. Choose your allies carefully, as every decision has the potential to create new adversaries. But the actions that other players take will have an impact on your adventure too! Your own story will be shaped by what they do, and their story by what you do, requiring you to carefully react to an unpredictable world.

This one seems like it might be a bit of a ways out, as it was only just revealed as the Day of the Devs showcase, but we do know it will have controller support.

Conclusion:

And that concludes all the news from the Day of the Devs show, basically everything presented at the showcase was available on PC, bar I believe, 1 game that was exclusive to Android and iOS. So it was a pretty good turnout for PC gamers!

If you want to catch the whole Day of the Devs showcase yourself, you can find it here. Otherwise, I hope you found this round-up of all the news helpful!
