Over the last week or so, I have had the pleasure of checking out the AYANEO AIR Plus and honestly, I have been blown away by its size and power. This device is half the size of the Steam Deck, yet more powerful! Unfortunately, some of the devices can be a bit on the pricey side, but luckily, there is a sale going on right now!
AYANEO's Summer Holiday Bash is happening right now and discounting some of its awesome lineup. There are 4 devices that are being discounted between 20% - 30% off, ranging from the AIR lineup, all the way to the 2! So here are the 4 devices on sale and how they stack up with each other:
AYANEO 2 ($1,099 - $1,549 $879.20 - $1,239) (20% Off)
First up we have the AYANEO 2. This beefy device is a similar size to the Steam Deck, sporting a 7 inch screen just like it, but utilizes a 1920x1200 resolution that has no bezels around it. It utilizes the AMD 6800U processor, which has double the cores of the Deck, and utilizes the Zen 3 architecture. It does have similar RDNA 2 GPU cores, but has 12 instead of the Deck's 8. It features hall joysticks and triggers, eliminating dead zone and heavily reducing the chance of stick drift, and has fingerprint touch wake up.
There is a lot to love here, but it is a pricey device when compared to its competitors. The Ally is a bit more powerful than this device, but it also doesn't have some of the features the AYANEO 2 has like the hall effect joysticks and bezel-less screen. It might be hard to justify based on what the Ally offers, but I would definitely consider this device a little more considering some of the hardware issues like the SD card frying.
AYANEO AIR ($549 $384.30) (30% Off)
This is where we start to really get into competing with the Steam Deck! The AYANEO AIR is designed to be small, thin, and light, being able to easily fit into your pocket. The device is 26.7mm thick, which is tiny compared to the 49mm thickness of the Deck, and sports a 5.5 inch AMOLED screen. This means you will have extremely vibrant colors and true blacks, which is amazing. The AIR also sports a AMD 5560U processor, which has 6 Zen 3 cores (compared to the Deck's 4 Zen 2) and 6 GPU cores. It is using slightly slower RAM, but the device holds up to the Deck in a lot of games (according to AYANEO internal testing). It also has 128gb of storage, which is double the 64gb of the $400 Steam Deck.
The AIR does have those hall effect joysticks and triggers so no deadzones and much less risk of drift. This is the biggest competitor to the Steam Deck in this sale as it puts it underneath the $400 mark. This will be a tough matchup, coming down to the slight edges each has. The AIR has an AMOLED screen with hall joysticks, is significantly smaller and lighter, and is running Windows (native Game Pass), but the Deck has significantly more community support and nice quality of life improvements like the trackpads and 2 back buttons. Of all the 4 devices though, I would consider this the best deal!
AYANEO AIR x B.Duck ($749 $524.30) (30% Off)
This is essentially the same device with same specs as the AIR, but it is a collaboration with B.Duck. If you like ducks...a lot...take a look at this one!
AYANEO AIR Pro ($1,099 - $1,399 $769.30 - $979.30) (30% Off)
Finally, we have the AIR Pro line. This one has almost completely similar specs to the AIR, but it is slightly thicker (29.6mm) and has a better processor inside, the 5825U. This CPU is also a Zen 3, but has 8 CPU and GPU cores. It still only supports DDR4, but this still works really well for the games. It also has the AMOLED screen, hall joysticks and triggers, and has Windows (for native Game Pass).
The price is a bit on the high side for this, but you will be getting a 1tb SSD inside, which is more storage space than both the most expensive Deck and Ally. Though, just for clarification, it isn't as powerful as an Ally. You can also get a more expensive version, which has 32gb of RAM instead of 16 and comes with a 2tb internal SSD. It is close to $1000 though, so it might be a little too pricey in my opinion.
And those are the 4 devices on sale now! It is pretty awesome to see, and personally, the base AIR model seems to be the most appealing in my book. Comparable to the Steam Deck's base model in price and has similar power, but uses Windows, hall joysticks and triggers, and an AMOLED screen. There are pros and cons to each though, so I highly recommend doing research, but I would start there myself!
The sale will be going on until July 20th, so there is time to think about it!
