Yars Rising is the Next Classic Game Revival by Atari!

We're getting used to these Atari revivals by now, but the next franchise to receive the treatment is that of Yar's... Yars'... Yars? Believe me, it's been officially spelled all 3 ways at this point, so I have no idea. Regardless, Yars Rising is the next chapter in the Yars series, presumably following on from Yars' Return, which itself followed the best-selling original, Yars' Revenge.

Yars Rising takes the form of a Metroidvania and is being developed by WayForward of Shantae and River City Girls fame. Here's the trailer to give you a sneak peek into the game's look and world:

In Yars Rising, you'll play as the young hacker Emi Kimura, who has been hired by an unknown patron to infiltrate the shadowy Qotech corporation. You'll have to run, jump, sneak, and hack your way through challenges to unravel layers of intrigue in this expansive sci-fi mystery. Can you discover the Qotech Corporation's closely guarded secret and uncover Emi's inexplicable bond to a far-off alien race?

WayForward is well known for developing franchises featuring strong characters and rich storytelling. In Yars Rising, the studio hopes to deliver a side-scrolling Metroidvania adventure with platforming action, a balance of stealth and combat gameplay, and retro-inspired mini-games.

Yars Rising is due to be released on Steam in late 2024. It has full controller support and system requirements that the Steam Deck should be able to handle. So here's hoping this is another game we'll get to enjoy on the Steam Deck.
