The Steam Machine Has A Built-In Steam Controller Adapter

I have been quite excited for the Steam Machine, regardless of the price. Yes, it is a little bit on the expensive side, but the idea of completing the ecosystem at home for PC gaming. Anywhere in my house is too exciting. To keep that flowing, Valve released an Official Overview and Quick Start guide video for the device, and it has some interesting revelations that I thought were worth noting.

The entire video goes through what’s included in the box, the setup process, the ports, and the update experience. It doesn’t go too far into the UI or performance, but it covers all the bases to get us started with our devices. It’s cool to see everything that’s in the box and what it would be like to open it up and start it up for ourselves. However, there were a few points that I thought were very interesting.

The one that caught my attention the most was regarding the Steam Controller. The Steam Machine has an internal adapter specifically for the controller, so you don’t need to use the puck to connect it. It appears that you will need to use it for the first time to set up to update the puck, but after that, you can unplug it and pair the Steam Controller directly to the Steam Machine. This means that afterward, the puck is really only there to connect to other hardware or charge the controller.

LED customization is gonna be another extremely cool feature. We already knew a little bit about what it could do, but the reiteration of its customizability is so cool. I can definitely see myself using it to watch download progress without needing to keep looking at the screen. The fact that the LED bar will move along with the download progress is a fantastic idea. It also looks like we’ll be able to customize it with different colors and animations.

And soon, Valve will release the CAD files for the face plate so that people can start making their own. I’m going to be really interested to see what kind of face plates people make, and whether they will be able to do anything unique, like that e-ink faceplate that shows performance metrics.

Regardless of the price, the idea of using different PCs to continue playing our purchased library of games wherever we are still excites me. And despite the price, I am very excited for the Steam Machine, and I can’t wait to try it out for myself. Hopefully, I get lucky, and I’m in the first wave to buy one.
