One of the big appeals about the Steam Deck was its great compromise of power and price. For the cost, it was one of the best deals for portable PC gaming. However, because of the RAM and SSD shortages, the Steam Deck has been out of stock for quite some time now. It makes sense, but it is a little sad. But in a turn of events, the Steam Deck has returned, but it lost one of the biggest reasons why the handheld is worth buying.
Earlier today, Valve announced that the Steam Deck is back in stock, but it has some new updated pricing. Because of the increasing cost of RAM and SSD, the price of the Steam Deck models has gone up by over $200 to $789. The 512GB model has gone up by $240, and the 1TB model has gone up by $300 to $949. It also looks like the prices of the refurbished models have also gone up accordingly.

It makes sense why the prices have gone up, but it has made one of the biggest appeals to get a Steam Deck disappear. Before, I would recommend the Deck because it had a great balance of power for the price. $549 was a great entry-level cost for what the deck was able to do. However, I don’t think I can say it’s worth it anymore. $789 as an entry-level is just too much to ask for with what we’re getting.

It’s a little disheartening to see, because this is a fantastic handheld that I do love. I will say that Valve still has refurbished models of the 256GB and 512GB LCD at good prices that are very worthwhile, but it’s very hard to recommend the OLED models at the current price. I hope this is just temporary until prices go back down, but since we aren’t sure when that will be, it’s hard to gauge whether it’s a good time to buy.

With the yen course I really don't want to know what the steam machine will cost here when it's released in Japan.
While I really would love to buy a steam machine im doing more research regarding a new gaming Notebook. My one still have a 1070 GTX GPU and while many things are still running with a bit of tinkering it would be time to get a new one. Sure it would be cost more at the end but while I would easily get more power (especially in today's ray tracing demand) I would also get a new device for better Video edition on da Vinci resolve.
I'm pretty glad that we have two steam decks at home (LCD) but that's fine. Even if one would die, we have a spare one until the first would be repaired
And it's sold out already.
It's even more insane in Canada. The 1TB OLED (the one I have) went from $819.99 to $1349.99.
