Things seem to be picking up when it comes to the new hardware from Valve. There have been so many developments with the Steam Frame recently, including getting a dedicated page on Qualcomm’s website and experimental support coming to the Unreal Engine. However, a new development arose with the Steam Machine, and it further hints at Valve getting ready for a launch.

Discovered in the changes from the newest Steam Beta Client update, thanks to Brad Lynch (@SadlyItsBradley), there have been a bunch of new references to the Steam Machine. It seems as though the client has added a bunch of text to pop up when certain events happen.

Brad mentions that this includes systems for steam to control the Machine’s LED bar and HDMI CEC Audio Control, as well as localization for a dedicated “Verified” program for the Machine. While I tried to look this up for myself, the GitHub page would only load so many entries before it just stopped working. I was able to check out the added localizations for the Verified program in both Bulgarian and Finnish, but I couldn’t get the file with English text to load, and I could only get the localizations to load on my phone. So, there’s only so much I can confirm for myself. However, I do trust Brad as a source, and it seems that behind-the-scenes, this update was a very heavy Steam Machine-focused one.

While this could be Valve just getting things ready on the backend, it could also mean they are prepping. Honestly, that’s what I hope they are doing, because I can’t wait for the new hardware to be released.
