I have been truly amazed by the decompilation scene recently. Seeing Nintendo 64 titles get decompiled and recompiled as native PC ports with enhanced features has given new life to these classics. One of the most well-known teams in this space is Harbour Masters, who has given us PC ports of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Recently, they announced they were working on a port of Star Fox 64, also known as Starship, and today, it has just been released into 1.0!

It's awesome seeing this come to life, and it's pretty easy to set up. You just need to download the port files, grab a copy of Star Fox 64 that is compatible, generate the corresponding files by running a .bat program, and then you are good to go! I can't provide a direct link to a copy of the game, but you can find the specific instructions on how to check to make sure the hash matches up on the Starship Github.
However, this release does not work on the Steam Deck. There is currently only a Windows version due to some last-minute snags with the MacOS and Linux versions, and trying to run with Proton through Steam only brings up errors and crashes the program. I tried both before and after the files were generated with 4 different Proton layers, and none of them worked. Hopefully, the Linux version will be released soon, but it is still coming, no matter what.
I can't wait to try this out on the Steam Deck, but until then, we will have to stick with Windows OS to wait it out. That's good news for those with Windows handhelds like the ROG Ally and Legion Go, or anyone with a Windows desktop PC.

I had it working and went through the first few missions yesterday. Added non steam, used proton experimental. Bazzite Stable, Steam Stable. Deck OLED.
I tried just using Proton Experimental, but it didn't work. There needs to be a couple of changes, but I did get it running in the end.
Is it possible that it just needs dependencies installed to work on Steam Deck? I can't remember the app I used to do this with, but I had to do it for almost every side loaded Windows game for them to work properly.
It's possible, but I did end up getting it working with some changes. Guide coming in a few hours!
I'm sorry to say, but I had this working last night through portproton after I prepared it on a windows machine. Just saying.
It still didn't work for me, but I did end up getting it running with a couple of changes, and I got the .bat file working on Deck so no need to prep on another machine. Guide coming soon!
Good job dude. I dunno how mine worked OOTB. With port Orton. I changed the gfx renderer. I think but that was it
