Silent Hill 2's remake has been incredible, and while I would consider it playable on the Steam Deck, there are a lot of issues later on in the game. But it seems like developer Bloober Team is on the case and in a new patch, has mentioned that we should now have a better experience on the Steam Deck!

In the 1.04 patch for the game, there are a solid amount of bug fixes with gameplay, but there is a full technical section that goes into what they have added in the backend. In this section, we see a little bullet point stating:
- Improved performance and optimization for Steam Deck.
While we haven't tested it yet, their stating Steam Deck support shows that the developers are aware of the Deck and want to make it known that they are working on optimizing it as much as they can. We also see new support for FSR 3.1.1, as well as an option for AMD Fluid Motion Frames when using FSR 3.1 for supersampling, but as we noted in a previous article, these options may be locked outside of the Steam Deck version of the game. To access it, you will need to have this launch option to trick the game into thinking it is playing on a regular PC:
SteamDeck=0 %command%
Heads up, if you do use this launch command, you may run into some very high RAM usage that could lead to crashes.
The new patch should be available now, and it really has a ton of fixes throughout different parts of the gameplay. From something as little as picture frames overlapping in the Moth Room to improved deformation of Nurses' skirts, Bloober Team has gone all in to make sure we are getting a much nicer game with significantly fewer issues that could pop up.

Silent Hill 2 can be purchased on Steam for $69.99, but you can purchase it on Fanatical right now for $55.99, saving about $14.

Just tried it and now it's worse than before 😀 Both on desktop with Frame Generation (RTX 4070) compared to the DLSSFG hack I used before as well as on the Deck with official FSR 3.1 FG compared to using the .ini modification.
On desktop I get wobbling surfaces and flickering on James' head, on the there's more ghosting than I received as a teenager...
Well that's not good!We need to test as well, but haven't had the chance yet.
