I love 4X strategy games; they're one of my favorite types of strategy games and bring me the most joy. Sid Meier's Civilization is easily my favorite, with Civilization 5 being my personal favorite, but after playing Civilization 7 at Gamescom, I could easily see it being my new favorite. And today, developer Firaxis and publisher 2K Games have released the PC requirements for the game, and it looks like it will run on the Steam Deck.

Earlier today, the Civilization Twitter/X account posted the spec requirements for the game on Windows. And while it looks a bit beefy for the Ultra settings, the minimum does seem like it could stick around the Deck's power:

On top of that, they mentioned that they are also releasing a Mac and Linux/SteamOS version with specs that will come soon:
This is going to be a very unique release, since this is the first Civilization game releasing on consoles with controller support, which could be very good for playability on the Steam Deck. I also feel a bit more confident since the official account does mention SteamOS, and while it does say that at the bottom of store pages on Steam, there is no other device that uses SteamOS other than the Deck.
I am especially hopeful that the Linux version will be very Steam Deck compatible. Based on the Windows minimum, it is within reason for CPU, GPU, and RAM, and with the minimum resolution being tested at 1080p, it should be a little less for the Deck's resolution of 800p. All of this makes me very hopeful that it will be decent on the Deck and an enjoyable experience.
Sid Meier's Civilization 7 can be pre-purchased on Steam for $69.99 ahead of its February 11th, 2025 release date.
