PAYDAY 3 Is Taking First Steps To Be Playable Offline With New Expansion+Update

I can't remember how much I have actually played PAYDAY 2. It's probably the co-op game I have played the most, thanks to its addicting gameplay loop, fantastic progression, and wealth of content. So, when PAYDAY 3 was announced, I couldn't have been more excited. I was over the moon, and after trying it at Gamescom 2023, I was loving a lot of the new mechanics and visual style. Unfortunately, the execution wasn't as great. The game had its issues, and lack of content or offline capability made it hard to fully enjoy. Well, it seems that's going to be ending soon, and I couldn't be more excited!

Today, more details were unveiled for the upcoming second DLC for PAYDAY 3, titled "Boys in Blue," as well as the huge free update that comes along with this release. For those who are getting the paid DLC, you will have a new heist pack, which includes the brand new heist that takes us into a police station, a weapon pack with 3 new weapons, 26 mods, and 2 cosmetics, and a tailor pack with four new masks, suits, and gloves. While this is cool, it's the free update that really has my attention.

The free update includes some big changes and improvements, as well as new content! Content wise, we have heister Clover making a return, a new LMG, and the ability to rename loadouts. On the settings side, we have DLSS 3.0 being added to the game, which we may actually be able to use to improve performance with a mod (we will investigate this more soon), and Solo Mode Beta is being introduced, and the latter is what really excites me.

Solo Mode Beta is a direct response to community feedback and is the beginning of a full offline option that will be available in the future. In this beta, some sections of the game will be hosted on the payer's devices instead of servers, skipping the matchmaking step. You do still need internet for identification and startup, but once this is done, you are good to disconnect. It's the first step to being fully offline in the future, and I am excited to be able to play this on the go without worrying about internet.

PAYDAY 3's Boys in Blue DLC will be available next week on June 27th, while the full game is available now on Steam for $39.99. It is rated Steam Deck Playable and can perform quite well on Deck, as long as you are using the "-dx12" launch option for it.
