Another announcement from today's Triple-i Initiative Showcase is that Old World is getting another DLC expansion. This DLC, entitled Old World: Behind the Throne, adds a bunch of new content to the game, mostly focused on character interactions and the introduction of a rival mechanic, and it launches on May 28th.
Check out Behind the Throne's reveal trailer below:
As I stated above, the focus of this DLC is on character interactions, which cover things like their wants, needs, and ambitions. The new Rival gameplay mechanic means figures will emerge with the popularity or authority to challenge your ruler in various ways. New Stress mechanics will see characters struggle under the pressures of court life, forcing them to engage in revelry, such as gambling and extravagance.
Here's a full list of what you can expect from this new DLC:
- Over 350 new events, mainly themed around politics, intrigue, and personal ambitions.
- Over ten new character traits, such as “Stressed,” “Impulsive,” and “Unpopular.”
- A collection of new goals & ambitions.
- Three new improvements and projects – Estates, Slums, and the “Opulence” project.
- Six new historical characters who can become “Rising Stars” – important characters who have the potential to become your greatest ally or your fiercest rival.
- New character portraits and event art.

Old World is available on Steam for $39.99. We don't have a price for the Behind the Throne DLC yet. We found that Old World runs quite well on the Steam Deck in our review, so you shouldn't have any trouble playing this game or the DLC on your Steam Deck when it launches on May 28th.
