New SteamOS Beta Update Adds Early HDMI VRR Support And Controller Support For MSI Handhelds

A new SteamOS Beta update was pushed out yesterday with a range of fixes and new support. Preliminary support for HDMI VRR for devices with native HDMI output has been added, which should help for devices like the Steam Machine that have HDMI ports. We also have controller support for a range of other handhelds, including MSI Claw models and the OneXPlayer APEX and X1. There's also improved gyro for the Legion Go 1 and Claw A1M, and a crash fix for ROG Xbox Ally models.

This will be part of the significantly larger SteamOS 3.8 update, which has some major upgrades to the OS, including an updated graphics driver, Linux kernel upgrades, and an updated BIOS with security upgrades.

You can download the updates yourself in the System Settings on the Steam Deck. Make sure your update channel is set to Beta or Preview for the beta update, while the stable update should just be available in any update channel.

• Fixed an issue on certain TCL TVs where the display may remain blank using the Steam Deck Dock
• Add controller support for MSI Claw devices (A1M, 7 AI+ A2VM, 8 AI+ A2VM, A8 BZ2EM)
• Add controller support for OneXPlayer APEX and X1 series.
• Improved gyro response for devices that use AccelGyro3D (Legion Go 1, Claw A1M)
• Fixed a system crash on international Asus ROG Xbox Ally models
