Myst Gets HDR Support For Steam Deck In 2.0 Patch

Myst is one of the few walking simulator-esque titles I really enjoy. The first-person exploration game is gorgeous and filled with interesting puzzles that keep me very entertained. A remake of the original 1993 release, Myst got its big 2.0 update yesterday, which brought with it a ton of fantastic changes, including a big one for Steam Deck owners.

One of the highlights of the new patch is its engine upgrade, going from Unreal Engine's 4.27 version to the newer 5.3.2 version. This solved a lot of stability and visual issues like flickering on lower-end hardware that would run the game. However, one of the improvements also included HDR support for the Steam Deck! So, if we are on the OLED Steam Deck, it will now recognize the screen as an HDR-compatible one so you can use it. If you are on a LCD Deck and are connected to an HDR monitor, it will now recognize it as well.

As for performance, it may be better or worse. Developer Cyan Worlds mentioned that they are seeing mixed results and that some instances have been better while others have been worse. On the other hand, the UI has been cleaned up and has loads of improvements, including new cursor options, cleaner menus, a UI volume slider, and better-scaled controller/keyboard diagrams. This will be especially helpful on the Deck's smaller screen to make it easier to see what to press.

There have also been some fixes all around and updates to their upscaling tools. They updated all of them to their latest, which should include FSR upscaling as well. Overall, this is a fantastic update and I can't wait to dive back into the game to try out HDR on my OLED Deck.
