Despite playing so many soulslikes, Mortal Shell 2 quickly became one of my favorites. The progression systems and customizability to tune our playstyle won me over as soon as it started to open up, and it helps that the combat is tight in the world that is hauntingly beautiful. On top of that, it’s pretty decent on the Steam Deck with compromises, and it seems like Valve agrees.

Earlier today, the game got the Steam Deck Playable badge. It got green checkmarks for the default controller configuration and graphical configuration, but Valve notes that it sometimes shows in controller icons and small in-game text. It also mentions that we may need to switch the controller manually when using an external controller.
Honestly, throughout my entire playthrough, I didn’t really notice either of these issues. The controller icons were always showing up correctly, and I didn’t notice any instances where there was small text. I can see some menus, and you are a little small, but it isn’t unreadable. Still, the framerate can be a little inconsistent when running around, so I do agree with the rating for different reasons.
If you wanna know how the game is running on the Steam Deck, check out our full review. We also wrote an article about how it’s running on the Steam Machine, so you can see if it’s worth getting on either device.

Mortal Shell 2 is available for $49.99 on Steam.
