Update 7/7/25: Made it clear that this project ports the Frame Generation features from Lossless Scaling to Linux, not the entire program.
Finding ways to make games run better on the Steam Deck is something I am very familiar with and try to do constantly whenever I play a game. It's a big part of my job, and as a PC gamer, optimizing is something I have always done. On Windows, one of the biggest tools that has helped a lot of people is Lossless Scaling. This Windows-exclusive application can inject frame generation into a game, helping performance. Unfortunately, it is Windows only, but that may not be a problem much longer.

Thanks to the work of PancakeTAS, Lossless Scaling may soon be supported on Linux with their new project: lsfg-vk. Initially reported on by GamingOnLinux, this project brings Lossless Scaling's Frame Generation features to Linux with a combination of DXVK and translating to Vulkan. It's very interesting how Pancake was able to get this working, and they have detailed the entire brutal process it took to get it working.
They also detail how you can install it right now. It needs a couple of components, and you will have to put in a command that they provide to install the components, as well as install Lossless Scaling from Steam. Then, once everything is installed, it's as easy as putting in "ENABLE_LSFG=1 %command%" into your launch options on different games.
I have seen firsthand how helpful Lossless Scaling is, but I haven't tried it on the Steam Deck yet. There may be some games that benefit from that, but the games that have the most trouble and need it are usually CPU-bound, not GPU-bound, so it may not be as helpful. The project is also very new and in active development, so there may be some problems and breaking that occurs, but Pancake is on top of it and hopefully it will only go up from here!

Oh my god yes! This is such a great tool and I've been lamenting you can't use it on the Steam Deck. Extremely easy way to get a way smoother image, a crisper image for pixel games, and doubling some games from 45 fps to 90 should be a piece of cake
How different is this to what decky-framegen provides?
It's somewhat similar, but Lossless Scaling Frame Gen is a different algorithm than FSR Frame Gen. It may be better for some games.
This might be the single best news I've heard all year
