While this does make some sense, it is wonderful to see no matter what! On the latest Steam hardware survey that Valve pushes out every month, it appears that Linux has a higher share of users on Steam than MacOS does, and we can thank the Steam Deck for this!

SteamHardwareJuly2023Overall

Looking at the OS Version breakdown, we can see that while Windows is still dominating at 96.21% of users (though it did lose about 0.56% from last month), Linux and MacOS (OSX) have reach grown respectively. But while MacOS is sitting at 1.84% of the userbase, Linux is now at 1.96%, pushing it to be the second most used operating system on Steam.

Looking at the Linux breakdowns, we can see that the Steam Deck's growing userbase is directly causing the change. The most popular Linux Version (SteamOS Holo) and Video Card Description (AMD VANGOGH) are both exclusive to the Steam Deck and show an almost identical percentage increase over last month with Linux's responses (2.74%). We can also see a similar increase in the most popular VRAM (1GB is the Steam Deck's default) and we see a very close increase with AMD being the most popular processor vendor and AMD CPU Speeds.

I am sure that, in the next few months, we will see the Linux userbase continue to grow with the Steam Deck taking up around 50% of Linux users on Steam, maybe even more!
