The Double-Decker Case was provided by JSAUX for review. Thank you!
When it comes to finding the right case for the Steam Deck, there are a couple of necessities. It has to offer great protection, be easy to carry, and have a comfortable interior to prevent the device from scratching. I have seen a lot of carry cases over the past few years, including backpacks designed to carry handhelds. However, if I’m just bringing the Steam Deck, I'd much prefer a custom case for it. My default has always been JSAUX’s carrying case, which has nice little storage compartments for extra cables and a charger. I wasn’t sure how a carrying case could get better, but JSAUX showed me that there is a way, and it will be the carrying case I use from now on.

The Double-Decker Travel Supply Case is a beefy, bulky carrying case for the Steam Deck, and there’s a lot to love about it. It’s packed with little features that I never thought about having before, which make it really stand out compared to other carrying cases. And even though it’s not perfect, losing some of its portability that is essential for cases like this, it’s still a great case to take around if you are just bringing the Steam Deck with you when traveling.
On the outside, the case is very sturdy. It’s using reinforced felt material that is both water-resistant and shockproof. In general, it feels very sturdy, and I actually feel quite confident just from the texture that it could withstand any accidents, which is partly due to how snug the handheld sits in the case. I found it very easy to trust. In this case, way more than the previous cases I’ve used.

Internally, the Double-Decker Travel Supply Case is fantastic. The balance with the soft, plush interior to make sure the handheld doesn’t get scratched is complemented by a large compartment underneath the house, and a ton of extras to bring with. When I have to travel for work, I tend to bring a good amount with me, and it looks like it could store all of it comfortably. The top part that holds the Steam Deck is small enough to make sure it doesn’t move too much and has all the indents accordingly to accommodate all the buttons and triggers. It’s hard to find any fault with the general design of the internal compartments.
However, that’s not the big reason I’m so excited about this case. While it has a large compartment underneath to store whatever we want, along with removable barriers to section off the compartment, there is one specific feature that makes me love this case. There are two small holes towards the top of the top compartment, which can be used to put a cable through. Theoretically, this means you can charge your Steam Deck while it’s in the case, using an external battery and snaking a cable through that hole. I was a little worried about the texture inside, which could make the device heat up a little too much, but it never got to a point where I was worried. The screen felt a little bit on the hotter side, but it was pretty close to how hot it got when regularly charging, and the soft texture that it sat on didn’t get hot. The case also has a little opening in the back that can keep airflow coming in, which is appreciated.

And just like most of JSAUX’s other cases, we have a flap that can be turned into a stand, so we don’t have to hold the Deck while using it. It’s nice to have this as an option, especially if I am carrying an extra controller with me or watching something on the Deck.
As for the bottom compartment, it is significantly larger than I would’ve expected from a case. It feels like I could fit so much in there, from chargers and battery packs to all the cables that I would need. Depending on the size of the battery pack, it may be hard to bring both a pack and a controller, but it would be very easy to bring one of those, as well as all the adapters and cables that would be necessary for traveling. Of course, bringing too much into my closet makes it heavy, but the handle on top makes it easy to grip and bring around. And even though it takes up one of my hands, it’s still way easier than bringing a backpack. Still, it actually comes with a shoulder strap, so we can take it with us while freeing our hands.

I really like this case, but it isn’t perfect. Well, it is easy to carry around, and we do have the shoulder strap; it’s also very bulky. For regular use, this wouldn’t be an issue, but if you wanna put it in a bag or a suitcase, it’s going to take up a good chunk of space. Granted, the compartment underneath means we can shift stuff around to make it fit, but it’s still on the bigger side.
Ultimately, it’s hard not to look at the Double-Decker case and not see it as one of the best cases for the Steam Deck. It makes it very easy to take everything we need for our deck in one case, and being able to charge while carrying is an incredible feature that I love. On top of that, the compartment underneath is large enough to carry everything we would need when traveling with the handheld. Despite its larger size, I would consider this the best traveling case I have ever used for the Steam Deck, and I highly recommend it.

Never thought I would need another case since I'm pretty happy with the base one that came with my 512gb version but damn, the flap that can used as a stand is amazing since we are often use the SteamDeck on trips to watch something together in bed. But yeah do I really need that or should I just place stuff behind the deck as before to keep it standing? In Japan you usually always have a little PET bottle from a vending machine with you 😀
