30 years after The Ur-Quan Masters released, a sequel is now in the works, known as Free Stars: Children of Infinity. A Kickstarter crowdfunding campaign for the game has just launched, with the developers seeking $100,000 to get their dream off the ground, and fortunately, they've already reached their target!

You can check out the game's announcement trailer down below:

I have to say, it's interesting to see a modern game lean so heavily into the retro aesthetic of yesteryear, and I'm not entirely against it either.

Free Stars: Children of Infinity aims to bring back the gameplay of the games before it, with a retro look, arcade-style combat, as well as a player-driven story. Load up your star map and explore thousands of planets across hundreds of systems in this open world that's begging to be explored and discovered.

That's not all, you'll also be able to enjoy the game in cooperative play with friends or duel it out in the PvP mode.

Free Stars: Children of Infinity is being developed by industry veterans formerly from Toys for Bob, who were also the ones responsible for releasing the original Ur-Quan Masters as an open-source game.

Free Stars: Children of Infinity is currently on Kickstarter, it costs $30 for a digital copy of the game, which is estimated to be released in May 2025. As always with crowd-funded campaigns, however, there is some risk involved, deadlines can be missed and promises can be left unfulfilled.
