The FlatOut series is, and always will be, a classic combat racing series that still holds a special place in my heart. I have fond memories of playing FlatOut 1 and 2, and being able to experience the series on the Steam Deck is such a treat. Unfortunately, there have been some hiccups, especially with FlatOut 3, but those seem to be non-existent anymore, thanks to new patches that were pushed out today!

FlatOut 3 definitely has the biggest change when it comes to the Steam Deck and deserves some special attention. The game is rated Unsupported and has not been able to work with Proton to play the game on Linux, but that is no longer going to be an issue! In a message sent to me by the developer ZOOM Platform (who is working on the classic FlatOut series now), an update has been pushed, and they are waiting for Valve to change something on their end, which will get FlatOut 3 launching with Proton! There is no word on when this will happen, though, so if you want to play and try it now, you can by using this launch option:

PROTON_NO_ESYNC=1 PROTON_NO_FSYNC=1 %command%

But that's not all! The rest of the classic FlatOut games got some nice updates too! Both FlatOut 1 and 2 got the Steam Deck Verified badge, they all have trading cards, backgrounds, emojis, and badges, cloud save support has been added, new languages have been added, and some improvements have been implemented for the visuals.

But the best of these updates is easily the Steam Workshop support! This means people can create and upload mods for the FlatOut games and you can easily download them through Steam to use them when you play. I am a sucker for mods, so this makes me extremely happy to see! These changes seem to only be applied to FlatOut 1, 2, and Ultimate Carnage, but they are still fantastic to see!

Other than the Steam Deck compatibility and launch option, FlatOut 3 doesn't have any of these extra improvements. I was told that FlatOut 3 was only getting a small update to get it working, but nothing more substantial like the other games.
