AYANEO Suspends NEXT 2 Sales Due to Rising Component Costs

AYANEO has announced that the company will be suspending the Indiegogo campaign for its upcoming PC handheld, the AYANEO NEXT 2.

The company says producing the NEXT 2 is no longer sustainable. Given its already high cost of entry, the device would require even higher pricing just to cover the cost of its components.

Over the past few months, the tech industry has faced widespread RAM and storage shortages, leading to either reduced device output or higher prices. With AYANEO already asking over $1,000 for the base NEXT 2 and more than $4,000 for the top-spec model, any further increases would be unsustainable.

AYANEO says it has been monitoring rising costs and adjusting accordingly. Before Lunar New Year, prices were noticeably high, but after the Chinese holiday, the prices continued to soar. According to the company, it was making “little to no profit” on the NEXT 2, and with prices continuing to climb, it would have begun taking a loss on each unit sold.

That said, this is not the end of the NEXT 2. The suspension is described as temporary. AYANEO says it may resume sales if component prices return to more reasonable levels, but with the ongoing RAM shortage, there’s no clear timeline.

The surge in AI development has only made things worse. Companies are stockpiling components in anticipation of future demand, while manufacturers ramp up production to keep pace. The result is a catch-22: higher demand drives up prices, which in turn limits availability—creating a cycle with no clear end.

AYANEO has built a reputation for high-end devices, using premium materials, uncommon aspect ratios, and pushing into increasingly expensive territory—something the NEXT 2 exemplifies.

If the NEXT 2 does return, its price will likely remain in the $1,700–$4,300 USD range it was targeting before suspension. Although the handheld would have offered strong performance compared to its competitors, some of the listed specs were eye raising. For instance, the 128GB RAM configuration is exceptionally ambitious even for a full-fledged standard PC. At that point, it raises a simple question: who was this product actually for?
