UPDATE / February 9, 2026

Anbernic has released a short gameplay video showcasing performance across several systems, including PS2, PS Vita, and PSP. Notably, the footage does not shy away from highlighting occasional slowdowns.

In the video description, Anbernic also shared a few additional details. Separately, an earlier “leak” from The Phawx revealed that the device is powered by a Unisoc Tiger T618, the same chipset used in the RG405H, RG405V, and RG505, which Anbernic classifies as its fifth-generation platform.

It’s important to note, as detailed in the article below, that the footage shown is of the RG VITA, not the RG VITA Pro.

We’ll keep our finger on the pulse of Anbernic and update this article as soon as more details are released.

Anbernic is back with a new retro handheld inspired by a timeless system. This time, the company has set its sights directly on the PlayStation Vita with two newly announced devices called the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro.

The trailer shared so far only showcases the base design of the handhelds. No specifications or performance details were revealed, but it seems likely there will be a meaningful distinction between the base model and the Pro beyond just exterior materials.

Anbernic’s most compelling recent handhelds have leaned heavily into the design, ergonomics, and overall footprint of handhelds released over the past two decades. In 2024, the company launched the RG35XX SP, drawing its design directly from the Game Boy Advance SP. That was followed by the RG34XX, which is arguably the closest we may ever get to a modern, upgraded replica of the original Game Boy Advance. Shortly after, Anbernic released the RG34XX SP, featuring the same screen, dual analog sticks, and the familiar SP-style clamshell design.

The company did not stop there. In between those releases, Anbernic launched the RG Slide. While the RG Slide takes clear inspiration from the PSP Go, it differs in several major ways beyond its sliding mechanism. The RG Slide is more than twice the size of a PSP Go, features a 4:3 display, and uses a resolution that works out to an aspect ratio-adjusted 1080p screen, a significant leap over the PSP Go’s original 480 by 272 resolution.

Anbernic RG Vita

Most recently, Anbernic released the RG DS, a handheld directly inspired by the Nintendo DS. Its primary appeal was designed around recreating the experience of playing Nintendo DS titles, but at launch, the device’s chipset struggled to deliver the necessary performance. Just before release, Gamma, one of the leading developers in the retro handheld space, stepped in to assist Anbernic and resolved the lingering 40Hz bottom screen issue before the device reached customers.

As of yesterday, Gamma has released a version of GammaOS Next for the RG DS that introduces a wide range of changes, fixes, and improvements. These updates help the handheld feel far more like a revitalized Nintendo DS experience in 2026 rather than a rough first attempt.

RG Vita

Now, Anbernic appears ready to continue its nostalgia-driven lineup with the RG Vita and RG Vita Pro. The two models seem to split the line cleanly down the middle. The standard RG Vita appears to use the familiar plastic shell found on many Anbernic devices, while the RG Vita Pro features a glossy glass front panel similar to the recently released RG476H and devices like the Retroid Pocket Mini V2.
