Alone in the Dark Gets Big Steam Deck Improvements, Photo Mode, and More

While it had some minor issues, seeing Alone in the Dark return was really wonderful. I thoroughly enjoyed the world that was built, and I would love for more reasons to go back and experience it again. After yesterday's update, I may have that reason since it includes tons of enhancements, Photo Mode, and better Steam Deck support!

Before getting into the meat of the update, I want to focus on the improvements related to the Steam Deck. We have 5 specific improvements that have been added here. New default settings have been set, better UI support has been provided, icons have been resized, Steam Deck controller icons have been added, and the keybindings option has been hidden when playing on Deck. While the keybindings one takes away options, we can change our bindings via Steam Input, which is okay. There were also some performance fixes, like improved lighting in cutscenes (yes, please) and a preload component to the Cemetery Corridor, which reduces texture pop-ins.

I haven't tested these fixes and possible performance updates yet, but I celebrate them regardless!

This is a big update, so on top of all of this, we have two huge new features: Photo Mode and New Game +. Photo Mode will allow you to take awesome pictures in the game, while New Game + has new gameplay events, a new intro, and overhauled balance. We also have bug fixes that prevent soft locking, two additional save slots, a new tutorial for dodging, new icons for some throwable opportunities, filter fixes when using HDR, and much more.

Alone in the Dark is available on Steam for $59.99, but you can purchase it on Fanatical for $49.79 with coupon code "FANATICAL17" at checkout. The game is rated Steam Deck Playable due to changing graphical settings and small in-game text, and when we reviewed it, we felt it was playable and could be reasonably enjoyable on the Deck.
