The Steam Summer Sale is happening right now, and we're rounding up the best games to play on your Steam Deck from a few of our favorite genres. I'm a big fan of racing games, so I was given the opportunity to present 10 racing games that I think you should consider picking up in the Steam Summer Sale for your Steam Deck.

Forza Horizon 5 - $29.99 (50% Off)

If you're after a built-for-fun simcade racing game, then you can't go far wrong with the Forza Horizon series. With the recent release of Forza Horizon 6, you might want to go back and revisit the previous entry in the series if you missed it, and for the Summer Sale, we have a nice 50% discount, making it a great deal for the amount of content you'll get.

Performance on the Steam Deck is solid thanks to the game's good optimization. You can expect around 60 FPS on 720p at Low settings, but you may want to apply a 50 FPS lock for smoother frametime. You can also up the graphical settings a little and drop to 40 FPS if you want some extra visual flair.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds - $34.99 (50% Off) (Review)

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds was a big improvement over Sonic Team Racing for me, reverting back to individual racing, while still affording the opportunity to work with others. The gimmick of traveling through portals helps to vary up the gameplay, and once you get to the higher speeds, you can enjoy some action-packed racing with friends.

In our testing, we found that you can run the game on high settings at 75% render resolution and still enjoy a smooth 60 FPS experience. This offers a lot of flexibility if you want to turn the settings down and preserve some extra battery life.

The Crew Motorfest - $13.99 (80% Off)

While perhaps not on the level of the Forza Horizon series, The Crew Motorfest tends to offer a more "grounded" experience, while still swimming in the same pond. There's a good variety of licensed vehicles, plenty of events to work your way through, and you can do it all with your friends.

As for Steam Deck performance, you can run the game on the Low preset with render scaling down to 75% to get a locked 40 FPS experience, or drop to 30 FPS to either up the preset to Medium or the render scaling to 100%, depending on your preference.

Tokyo Xtreme Racer - $29.99 (40% Off)

If you want to experience the Shuto Expressway and Japanese Highway racing, then 2025's Tokyo Xtreme Racer is probably the best way to do it. Customize your dream Japanese sports car and race head-to-head against opponents on the busy expressway around Tokyo.

You can expect around 50 FPS with the Medium graphics preset on this one. It's quite CPU-intensive, so hitting a constant 60 FPS isn't really possible. Upping to the High Preset causes drops to around 30 FPS, which is an option if you're fine playing racing games at 30.

Wreckfest - $2.99 (90% Off)

Yes, Wreckfest 2 is already available in Early Access, but for $3, can you really pass up the original game if you don't own it yet? With some very neat crash physics and damage models (both cosmetic and mechanical), Wreckfest is a heck of a good time. You can earn money and upgrade your car through career mode, or duke it out with friends and strangers online in multiplayer with plenty of rubbing and racing.

Steam Deck performance is solid here; you can run with the High preset and hit 60 FPS most of the time. It does hammer the battery, though, so dropping to Medium and locking the game to 60 FPS will allow you to get a few more races in before you have to recharge.

Screamer - $29.99 (50% Off) (Review)

Screamer is an arcade racer through and through. Unique driving mechanics that help you feel engaged behind the wheel, combined with a narrative-first focus, make this one a rarity in the racing game world, definitely one to check out if you're looking for something different.

My preference is to keep the game on Low settings, then use FSR on Quality. This allows us to play at a smooth 60 FPS, which is exactly how you want to experience this game with its fast-paced races.

Parking Garage Rally Circuit - $4.99 (50% Off)

I'm a huge fan of Time Trials, and Parking Garage Rally Circuit takes that to the extreme. With a retro aesthetic, some tight driving mechanics, and tracks designed for precision, you'll need to weave, drift, and boost your way through a variety of tracks to improve your times by milliseconds and place higher on the online leaderboards. Plus, there's Steam Workshop support to add tonnes of extra tracks, including those from other games such as Crash Team Racing.

As you might imagine, this game does not trouble the Steam Deck whatsoever, so you can go ahead and play this at 60 or 90 FPS depending on your Steam Deck model, regardless of graphical settings.

American / Euro Truck Simulator 2 - $4.99 (75% Off)

Ok, these aren't strictly racing games, more so driving ones, but we can't do a feature on racing/driving games without mentioning these 2 legends. For the low price of $4.99 each, American Truck Simulator and its European counterpart are great games to try on the Steam Deck. Building up your hauling company from nothing to a fleet of vehicles is a great feeling, and nowadays, you can do all of that with friends thanks to the Convoy system, so maybe you can get some racing in?

Steam Deck performance is an odd one with these games. The native Linux version has always suffered from poor performance, so you may want to force Proton 10 in the game properties to improve it. On Proton, I use the Medium Preset, set Render Scale to 100% to reduce the dashboard's muddy visuals, and then lock the game to 40 FPS. It should hold 40 FPS even in busy cities like LA. Euro Truck Simulator 2 is much the same.

Slipstream - $7.49 (25% Off)

Not a huge discount on this one, but Slipstream is undeniably one of the best revivals of 1980s and early 1990s retro racers, such as Outrun. With challenging, easy-to-learn, and difficult-to-master driving mechanics, a variety of modes, including modes that let you win races and gradually upgrade your car, and support for split-screen multiplayer, Slipstream gives you nostalgia for games you might never even have played before.

Steam Deck performance is flawless, Slipstream is a very light game to run, and you'll get hours of battery life running at 60 or 90 FPS, depending on your Steam Deck model.

Super Woden GP 2 - $6.49 (50% Off)

For a top-down racing game, you'll struggle to do much better than Super Woden GP 2. This game covers a wide variety of disciplines, from rally to GT racing, street cars to prototypes. With nice attention to detail, a menu system reminiscent of older Gran Turismo titles, a career mode, and online leaderboards to compete against, there's plenty to sink your teeth into for the low price.

Again, this is a lightweight title, so the Steam Deck has no trouble running it at 60 FPS with minimal battery drain, even with settings turned up.

There you have it. There are plenty of other racing games available in the sale that might catch your eye, such as the F-Zero-inspired XF Extreme Formula and Victory Heat Rally, both of which are solid games. Be sure to grab any deals you want before the Summer Sale ends on July 9th.
