Starfield, the upcoming space-exploration RPG from Bethesda, has been the talk of the town for the last few years, especially since their showcase during the Summer Games Fest this year. After the announcement, we speculated on how it could run on the Steam Deck, comparing it to past games from the developer and similar games in terms of recommended specs, but one of the areas we couldn't know for certain was if the game will have upscaling support. Today, AMD has confirmed that FSR 2 will be coming to Starfield!

In a YouTube video posted to the official AMD account, it was announced that AMD is an exclusive partner for the game. FSR 2 support was then mentioned by Todd Howard at the 1:19 mark, saying that AMD engineers are in their code base working on the upscaling and image processing of FSR 2.

This also means AMD is heavily optimizing the game with the newest Ryzen processors and GPUs with Jack Huynh, SVP and GM of computing and graphics at AMD, directly talking about the 7000 series of both CPUs and GPUs. This will very likely see optimizations across the board, though we can't be sure 100% about the Steam Deck's performance just yet.

5 days ago, Todd also talked about handhelds in a Kinda Funny Games podcast where they discussed these. Joining them for this episode, Todd talks about having a "Large-Font Mode" that could be better with smaller devices, but won't comment yet if it is compatible with the Steam Deck. He also earlier mentions streaming vs playing natively, so it's very possible this is more regarding streaming the game rather than playing natively. It is awesome to see it being discussed at all though!

Starfield can be pre-ordered and wishlisted on Steam and will be coming out on September 6th of this year.
