FreestyleFootball R Proton Experimental Update on the Steam Deck.

A new Proton Experimental update was released yesterday, and it includes fixes for a couple of games and makes a new one playable. We can now play FreestyleFootball R, and Age of Empires 2 and Marvel Vs. Capcom Infinite, both of which had fixes to prevent crashes. We also have support for OpenXR, a set of open-source APIs and tools used to develop virtual reality and augmented reality applications.

The new Proton Experimental update will automatically download on the Steam Deck when it connects to the WiFi if you have it installed. Otherwise, you will have to go search for "Proton Experimental" on the Steam store from the Deck and download the layer manually.

Proton Experimental Update 5/6/24 Changelog:

  • Now playable: FreestyleFootball R.
  • Fixed scaling in The Desolate Hope when playing on desktop.
  • Added support for OpenXR 1.1.36.
  • Fixed Marvel vs Capcom Infinite crashing when creating multiplayer lobby.
  • Fixed Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition crashing when skipping intro videos.
  • Fixed Beat Saber not being playable on Nvidia GPUs without using the legacy branch.
  • Limited number of cores seen by the following games making them playable on a high core count CPUs:
    • Command & Conquer and The Covert Operations.
