Today, two new updates were released for Proton GE! The 8-5 update, which came early in the morning, was the bigger of the two and focused on updating its components and getting Gears 5 running without any EAC workarounds. This does require removing folders if you played with a past version of Proton GE. The 8-6 update was pushed out more recently and was just a quick fix for Final Fantasy 14.
For those who don't know about Proton GE, how to get it, or how to update, check out our Proton GE guide! We go over all of this and explain why having GE is important. Since the 8-6 update is a small hotfix, I would recommend downloading that one instead of 8-5.
Proton GE 8-5 Changelog:
- Gears 5 now works with EAC without any workarounds needed. If you previously used proton-ge to play, go into the game folder and remove these folders:
/GearGame/Binaries/Steam/EasyAntiCheat-Backup
/Engine/Binaries/ThirdParty/GFSDK_Aftermath
Then verify the integrity of the game files so that it re-downloads the originals
- protonfix added for Two Worlds audio (thanks marciocr)
- protonfix added for APB Reloaded (thanks telqor)
- dxvk updated to latest git
- vkd3d-proton updated to latest git
