AYANEO's latest flagship handheld, the AYANEO 3 has finally launched its Indiegogo campaign, and to be honest, I think it's priced pretty reasonably considering the specs of the device. So let's dive straight in and take a look at what's on offer.

AYANEO3

There are multiple configurations of AYANEO 3 available, with different APUs, RAM modules, SSDs, and even displays fitted to each, so let's break them down and see what SKUs AYANEO is presenting us with, from the cheapest to the most expensive. Also bear in mind that these are Early Bird prices, and may change in the future.

The AYANEO Magic Module included with the Retro Power versions of the handheld allows you to swap out the controller modules on the device with different configurations to suit your playstyle. These Magic Modules will be available separately at a later date on the AYANEO store.

AYANEO 3 - 8840U, 16GB+512GB ($700) / 32GB+1TB ($900) / Retro Power Edition ($1200)

The 8840U APU is found in the cheaper models of the AYANEO 3. This configuration offers us a Ryzen 7 8840U, which comes with a Radeon 780M iGPU. That puts it slightly faster than the likes of the ROG Ally and Lenovo Legion Go.

Here are the full tech specs:

  • CPU: Ryzen 7 8840U
  • GPU: Radeon 780M
  • RAM: 16GB LPDDR5X @ 7500 MT/s for $700 model, 32GB in $900 and $1200 models
  • Display: 1080p LCD w/ VRR @ 120Hz or 1080p OLED @ 144Hz
  • SSD: PCIe 4.0 2280 NVMe, 512GB for $700 model, 1TB in $900 and $1200 models
  • Accessories: AYANEO Magic Module included with $1200 model.

You'll also have the choice between an LCD or OLED display for this one. With the LCD having a VRR panel, meaning if you're playing a game where the framerate is fluctuating, it won't be as noticeable, whereas the OLED display will obviously have a greater color range it can display, without VRR. The LCD is also a native landscape, whereas the OLED is a portrait, which can occasionally lead to some issues with incorrect rotation. Both displays are 1080p

As the model name suggests, you are getting 16GB of LPDDR5X RAM clocked at 7500 MT/s. As well as a 512GB PCIe 4.0 NVMe SSD.

If you want to upgrade that to 32GB of the same RAM, and a 1TB SSD, then you'll have to pay out $900.

For those of you wanting to splash the cash, you can let a Retro Power aesthetic AYANEO 3, complete with an AYANEO Magic Module, allowing hardware-level customization of your controls.

AYANEO 3 - AI370, 32GB+1TB ($1,300) / 64GB+2TB ($1,600) / 64GB+2TB RP Edition ($1700) / 64GB+4TB RP Edition ($1,800)

If money is no object, you can go for the AI370 editions of the AYANEO 3. These feature the latest AMD APU technology, with the powerful AI 9 HX 370 APU and Radeon 890M iGPU. Beyond that, the RAM and SSD speeds, as well as the displays are identical to the specs shown above.

The higher-end AYANEO 3 models use the Ryzen AI 9 HX 370 APU

Here are the tech specs again for these models:

  • CPU: Ryzen AI 9 HX 370
  • GPU: Radeon 890M
  • RAM: 32GB LPDDR5X @ 7500 MT/s for $1,300 model, 64GB in all other models.
  • Display: 1080p LCD w/ VRR @ 120Hz or 1080p OLED @ 144Hz
  • SSD: PCIe 4.0 2280 NVMe, 1TB for $1,300 model, 2TB in $1600 and $1700 models, 4TB in $1800 model.
  • Accessories: AYANEO Magic Module included with $1700 and $1800 models.

Personally, I don't really see the need for 64GB of RAM in a handheld like this, so I wouldn't go for any higher than the $1,300 model, but if you do have an outside use case, you might find the 64GB beneficial.

So what do you think? Will you be looking into purchasing an AYANEO 3 now that they're available over on Indiegogo? Bear in mind that AYANEO products are usually at their cheapest on Indiegogo, and will increase in price once they shift over to the AYANEO retail store.
