Valve Issues Warning After Cyberattack on Third-Party Leaks European Customers' Personal Data

Unfortunately, we've probably all had our personal information leaked online over the past 20 years of hacks and cyberattacks, and now we're hearing of a new round after Valve became aware on August 7th that CEVA Logistics, the company that handles shipping for Valve's hardware in European countries, had been hacked, leading to customers' personal information being leaked.

Fortunately, CEVA Logistics does not handle any payment information, so any concerns about credit card details being leaked can be allayed, but details such as phone numbers, email addresses, and home addresses were exposed. If you bought a Steam Controller, Steam Deck, or Steam Machine between May and July 2026 via Steam in Europe, your data was likely compromised, and you should have received an email from Valve.

This issue was first reported by Reddit user Nelsonsflagship (via GamingBible), who shared a screenshot of the email they received from Valve, which also stated that although personal details have been compromised, your payment information, passwords, and Steam Guard codes have not been leaked, meaning your Steam account should remain safe.

Obviously, however, if you were affected, you might see an increase in spam or phishing attempts using your personal information, so be vigilant that even if you are contacted by someone who claims to know a lot of your personal details, you can truly validate that they are who they say they are.

Enabling extra security (such as 2FA) on your accounts may also be a wise choice, as the data leaked could contain answers that you might use for "security questions" on certain websites.
