The tech industry is in a rough spot right now. Because of inflated prices due to AI companies buying new hardware, it is tough. Even the most recently announced Steam Machine is significantly higher than what it should be, and it makes it hard to recommend. The same can be said about handhelds, which are also quite pricey. However, the OneXPlayer 3 may actually be one of the best deals for a handheld right now, and it’s definitely worth looking into.

OneXPlayer 3

The OneXPlayer 3 is ONE-NETBOOK’s next flagship handheld, and it just went live on Indiegogo for pre-order. Because this is early adoption, the price is discounted, with the lowest-end model costing $1,438. There are two other models that are more expensive, but they all share the same APU, which is what’s most important here.

The OneXPlayer 3 uses the Intel Arc G3 Extreme APU, the newest Intel APU that seemed to beat out the new AMD Z2 Extreme APUs that we see in the Legion Go 2 and ROG Xbox Ally X. It seemed a little hard to believe, especially since the claims that Intel was making were bold. However, the reviews for the new MSI Claw 8 EX AI+ have just dropped, and it shows some pretty significant improvements over the Z2 Extreme and even the Ryzen AI+ 395.

According to the NotebookCheck review, the 3DMark performance rating shows it beating out the Z2 Extreme, with a 50% increase over the Legion Go 2. It also measured a 30% increase in its performance rating over the ROG Xbox Ally X. This includes getting an average of 44 FPS in Baldur’s Gate 3 at 1080p with Ultra preset, which the Xbox Ally X got around 32.5 FPS. And it has a whopping 41% increase in Cyberpunk 2077 at 1080p Ultra, with the MSI Claw sitting at 39.6 FPS and the Xbox Ally X at 28.

Now, these are for the new MSI handheld, but it shows just how huge of a performance jump it is. And, not only is the OneXPlayer 3 using that same APU, but it is $200-$300 cheaper than the new MSI handheld right now. Not only that, but this handheld has an OLED screen, a slightly bigger battery, and detachable controllers. The screen still has variable refresh rate support that goes up to 144 Hz, so I would consider this ultimately a significantly better screen.

The reason the price is on the cheaper side is most likely due to RAM and SSD prices. Their cheapest model has 24GB RAM and 512GB SSD, which might be a little on the low side. The RAM is also slightly slower, coming in at 7467 MTs instead of the 8533 MTs that the 32GB RAM has, but it still should be good enough for the majority of games. However, even the highest-end model, which matches the MSI handheld in RAM and SSD, is still about $50 cheaper.

Again, these prices are due to it being a pre-order on Indiegogo, and they are not the permanent prices for this handheld. However, it’s hard to deny how great of a deal it is for this price. There may be a slight reduction in RAM and storage size, but saving $300 and getting an OLED screen more than makes up for it in my eyes.

You can pre-order the OneXPlayer 3 over on Indiegogo now, and it says it will ship in August of this year.
