Ever since LEGO Star Wars, I have loved the LEGO games that come from TT Games. They are still some of the favorites that I played consistently, and I loved the changes that they made with LEGO Star Wars: The Skywalker Saga. I’ve also been really looking forward to the upcoming LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, as it reminds me a bit of the Arkham series, but in LEGO format. I have been curious to see if this would be playable on the Steam Deck, but even with the PC spec sheet released, I have some worries.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight

Yesterday, the PC specs for the game were announced, and while it looks like it should be playable on the surface, I do see some red flags. Based on the actual CPU, GPU, and RAM minimum requirements, it should be playable on the Deck. However, what makes me worry is the detailed section, where they mentioned that upscaling and frame generation need to be enabled. Even if it is aiming for 1080p, the fact that frame generation is included here is very worrisome.

In all honesty, the entire system requirement sheet feels like a red flag. Frame generation is calculated into each of these sections, even if you want to play at 4K. The actual hardware that they are asking for in these requirements isn’t too bad, but the fact that this is taking upscaling and frame generation into account makes me worry about the actual optimization of the game. These tools should not be leaned heavily on for optimization, and instead, we used them to further improve the experience that is already optimized without them. I am worried that this isn’t the case here.

On top of that, recommending frame generation with 30 FPS is horrible. Frame generation is a technology that was used to improve games that have already hit 60 FPS without it, pushing it to higher framerates for monitors that are 120 Hz or above. Because of that, I’m really hoping that the addition of frame generation being enabled for 30 FPS at the minimum settings was a mistake on their part. Because otherwise, recommending something like this would be horrible.

With LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight releasing in three weeks, we won’t have to wait long to see for ourselves if it’s actually optimized or not, but based on the sheet provided, there is a lot to be worried about.

LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight can be pre-purchased for $69.99 ahead of its May 22nd release.
