Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered System Requirements Revealed

PlayStation's games have been a joy to play on the Steam Deck. Not all of them can run, and some require some major compromises to be playable, but the fact that we can play PS4 and PS5 games on a portable device locally has been insane. The one that really hit me initially was Horizon Zero Dawn, which I felt was a dream come true playing on Deck two years ago. Now, the remastered version of the game is on its way, and the system requirements have just been revealed!

In a Twitter/X post from Nixxes Software, they revealed the system requirements for the upcoming Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered, and it is a bit different than what was previously posted on the store page:

The new minimum requirements are the only requirements I will look at since there's no way the game will run at 60 FPS. Looking at the minimum specs, which is benchmarking for 720p resolution and 30 FPS, we have:

• CPU/Processor - Intel Core i3-8100 / AMD Ryzen 3 1300x
• GPU - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1650 (4GB) / AMD Radeon RX 5500 XT (4GB)
• Memory/RAM - 16GB
• Storage - 135GB

For the most part, this seems to be in the playable realm. The CPU requirement is within reason, and I would say the GPU requirement is too. It is much better than the GTX 1060 estimation that is on the store page for the game (though this may get changed soon). However, the RAM and VRAM requirements are a bit heavy for the Steam Deck. The Steam Deck only has 16 GB of RAM, so whenever a game needs more than that, it will cause a crash.

The good thing here is that Horizon Forbidden West has the same exact requirements that the Remaster does, according to the chart above, and that game was also ported by Nixxes Software. Based on this, I think we can say that these games will perform similarly. Forbidden West is playable on Deck at 30 FPS with the lowest settings, and while it doesn't hold it completely, it is still playable. Hopefully, this also means the Zero Dawn Remaster will be playable as well! Regardless, I do trust Nixxes Software and their porting/optimization, so I will stay cautiously optimistic.

Horizon Zero Dawn Remastered can be pre-purchased for $49.99 ahead of its October 31st release.
