The Game Awards is almost here, and it's so exciting to see. There are so many amazing games nominated here, with Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 stealing the show. However, there are a ton of great games nominated, and I wanted to go over how each of them runs on the Steam Deck. So, that's why this article is here! Here, I just go over lightly how each game is running on the Steam Deck, its initial performance, and whether it's worthwhile to play on the go.

The only games listed here are ones that are released on PC, whether they be on Steam or another DRM. Games like Death Stranding 2, Ghost of Yotei, and Donkey Kong Bananza won't be listed here.

Game of the Year

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 (GOTY, Game Direction, Narrative, Art Direction, Score and Music, Audio Design, Best Performance (Charlie Cox, Ben Starr, Jennifer English), Independent Game, Debut Indie, RPG)

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 The Game Awards GOTY

Clair Obscur runs out of the box on the Steam Deck without issue. It does have some compromises, and we can use the SteamDeck=0 %command% launch option for further graphical improvements, but will need more compromises with framerate. I recommend sticking to 30 FPS for the most stable experience overall.

Hades 2 (GOTY, Game Direction, Art Direction, Score and Music, Independent Game, Action)

Hades290OLED 11

Hades 2 is great to play on the Steam Deck and shouldn't have any trouble. It runs at a smooth 60 or 90 FPS with low battery drain for at least 3.5 hours of battery life. It's fantastic on the Deck, and I can't recommend it enough. There's a reason it's almost constantly on the top 20 most-played Steam Deck games list every month.

Hollow Knight: Silksong (GOTY, Art Direction, Score and Music, Independent Game, Action/Adventure)

HollowKnightSilksongStock1

This is another fantastic game on the Steam Deck, and it should run flawlessly at both 60 and 90 FPS. Just like Hades 2, it has been on the top 20 most-played Steam Deck games list since it was released, and it fits perfectly.

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 (GOTY, Narrative, RPG)

KingdomComeDeliverance2 プレビュー 1

Kingdom Come: Deliverance 2 is a joy to play on the Steam Deck. It does have more compromises since this is a large open-world game, but it can still be comfortably played at 40 FPS. I love it, and I can happily recommend playing it on the Deck.

2XKO (Fighting)

2XKOStock1

This game requires Vanguard anti-cheat, so it will not run on the Steam Deck without running Windows.

Absolum (Independent Game) (SDHQ Review)

Absolum2

There should be no problems playing Absolum on the Steam Deck. It works great out of the box and can handle a smooth 60 FPS with the default quality settings. You should get around 3.5 hours of battery life or more.

ARC Raiders (Multiplayer)

ArcRaidersSteamDeck1

Another solid game on the Steam Deck. We can get a locked 40 FPS with the default quality settings and changing upscaling to FSR 3 Balanced. This provided a smooth experience with a decently crisp image to make the game very playable. It does use a lot of battery, and will mean we only get around 2.5 hours of battery life on the OLED Steam Deck.

Assassin's Creed Shadows (Accessibility) (SDHQ Review)

AssassinsCreedShadows 17

Shadows runs pretty well at 30 FPS, better than I expected initially, and I am overjoyed how playable it is on the go.

Atomfall (Accessibility)

AtomfallPreview5

Atomfall should be very playable on the Steam Deck, and I had a blast playing it this way. I recommend sticking to a 40 FPS lock for the most stable experience throughout, only changing Shadows to Low and the render scale down to 90%. This also gave around 3-3.5 hours of battery life on the OLED Steam Deck, which is great for a huge game like this.

Avowed (RPG)

AvowedVerifiedUltraPerf

Avowed may have the Verified badge, but it isn't the greatest Steam Deck experience. It can hit 30 FPS most of the time with ok-looking visuals, but in some of the more open areas, we will drop below 30, even on the lowest possible settings. This isn't a game I would recommend playing on the Deck, but it is technically playable.

Baldur's Gate 3 (Community Support)

Baldurs Gate 3 2023.08.04 13.30.58.00

Baldur's Gate 3 got significantly better with the latest update giving it a native Linux port, and I highly recommend it now. Should be fully playable at 30 FPS, just don't expect battery to last very long.

BALL x PIT (Independent Game) (SDHQ Review)

ボールxピット 8

BALL x PIT is just perfect on the Deck, and one of my favorite games to play on the go. It can easily get to 60 FPS and will give around 4.5-5 hours of battery life.

Battlefield 6 (Audio Design, Action, Multiplayer)

バトルフィールド6AYANEO3 2

It uses EA's Javelin anti-cheat, which is unfortunately not compatible with the Steam Deck unless you have Windows installed.

Blue Prince (Independent Game, Debut Indie) (SDHQ Review)

BluePrince 5

This is another wonderful game to play on the Steam Deck. I recommend setting it to 45 FPS for a smooth experience with around 4.5-5 hours of battery life.

Capcom Fighting Collection 2 (Fighting) (SDHQ Review)

CapcomFightingCollection2 11

Another perfect experience on the Steam Deck. Runs at 60 FPS without issue and should last over 7-8 hours of battery.

Consume Me (Games for Impact)

ConsumeMeSteamDeck

Yet another flawless game to play on the Steam Deck. It runs like a charm, sticking to 60 FPS, and it feels great to play. It's a fun management RPG, and perfect for portable play.

despelote (Games for Impact, Debut Indie)

DespeloteSteamDeck

It runs nicely at 60 FPS, but the battery drain can fluctuate. I saw it go from 12W to 16W depending on what we are doing, but it's still ultimately playable on Deck.

Dispatch (Debut Indie) (SDHQ Review)

IMG 0354

Dispatch is closer to a visual novel, and should run without issue on the Steam Deck. It will stick to 60 FPS and get around 6-7 hours of battery life.

DOOM: The Dark Ages (Accessibility, Action)

DOOMTheDarkAgesNewUpdateSteamDeck

While it didn't perform well on its release, DOOM: The Dark Ages got a patch later on that made it significantly more playable on the Steam Deck. It will still need to stick to 30 FPS, but it should be stable.

EA Sports FC 26 (Accessibility, Sports/Racing)

EASportsFC26Stock1

EA Sports FC 26 is not playable on the Steam Deck due to EA's Javelin anti-cheat.

Elden Ring Nightreign (Multiplayer) (SDHQ Review)

エルデンリングナイトレイン 18

Elden Ring Nightreign should run well on the Steam Deck, though it's best when there is no framerate lock. This makes the game feel a little smoother, more than a capped framerate of 30, and is a good chunk of fun with friends.

F1 25 (Sports/Racing)

F125Stock1

F1 25 is not playable on the Steam Deck due to EA's Javelin anti-cheat.

Fatal Fury: City of the Wolves (Fighting) (SDHQ Review)

FatalFuryCityoftheWolvesBeta 4

With some changed settings, Fatal Fury can run at 60 FPS and is one of my favorite fighting games to play on the Steam Deck.

Final Fantasy 14 (Ongoing, Community Support)

FinalFantasy14Stock1

Works perfectly fine on the Steam Deck, and should run around 40-60 FPS in a majority of the areas in-game.

Final Fantasy Tactics: The Ivalice Chronicles (Sim/Strategy) (SDHQ Review)

ファイナルファンタジータクティクス TheIvaliceChronicles 9

Final Fantasy Tactics is another perfect game to play on the Steam Deck. It needs no changes and will run at 60 FPS and get around 6-7 hours of battery life.

Fortnite (Ongoing, Community Support)

NVIDIAGeForceNOWNativeAppFortnite

Fortnite can't be played on the Steam Deck natively unless you have Windows installed. The best way to play will be cloud streaming.

Helldivers 2 (Ongoing, Community Support)

Helldivers2Stock2

For the most part, Helldivers 2 is playable on the Steam Deck, but as more enemies get on the field and the action gets heavier, it will start to dip, but until then, it should be playable at 30 FPS.

Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (Troy Baker - Best Performance, Action/Adventure)

IndianaJonesandGreatCircleVerified1

Indiana Jones has received some extra updates that make it more playable on the Steam Deck, but it's still one I would avoid playing on the go if you can. There are still some drops here and there, but it is playable.

Jurassic World Evolution 3 (Sim/Strategy) (SDHQ Review)

JurassicWorldEvolution3SteamDeck3

The game has its own Steam Deck graphics preset that runs decently on the Steam Deck. It will stick to 30 FPS the whole time and be a solid experience on the go. It also has full controller support and is a decent experience overall.

LEGO Party (Family) (SDHQ Review)

LEGOParty 7

A fantastic alternative to Mario Party that runs perfectly on the Steam Deck. It will hit 60 FPS and get around 3-3.5 hours of battery life, no matter how many people you are playing with.

LEGO Voyagers (Family)

LEGOVoyagersStock2

LEGO Voyagers is another near-flawless experience on the Steam Deck. It should be great, hitting 60 FPS with some minor performance issues in some scenarios.

Marvel Rivals (Ongoing)

MarvelRivals 4

Marvel Rivals runs quite well on the Steam Deck, too. I would recommend setting the framerate cap to 30 FPS for the most stable experience, but it should hold and be very playable on the Deck.

Monster Hunter Wilds (RPG)

MonsterHunterWildsOpenBeta 11

Unfortunately, Monster Hunter Wilds is not going to be playable on the Steam Deck. It has some moments where it can hit 30, but there are many more that will drop below, stutter, and just feel awful. I don't recommend playing this on the Deck.

Mortal Kombat Legacy Kollection (Fighting)

MortalKombatLegacyCollectionSteamDeck

There's no issue running this on the Steam Deck. It's near perfect, sticking to 60 FPS, and fluctuates around 6W - 7W battery drain depending on which game you play. This is a great game to play on Deck.

Ninja Gaiden 4 (Action) (SDHQ Review)

ニンジャガイデン4 8

The game comes with handheld optimizations and a specific Steam Deck mode, which is the best way to play. It does mean a locked 30 FPS, but it works well and is playable this way.

No Man's Sky (Ongoing, Community Support)

No mans sky 1

Set this to 30 FPS and you should be good to go! No Man's Sky has been around for so long, it's kinda crazy just how much content it has and how enjoyable it is on the Steam Deck.

PEAK (Multiplayer) (SDHQ Review)

PEAKStock1

PEAK is one of my favorite multiplayer games to have released this year, and it's a blast on the Steam Deck. It should run at 60 FPS with some modified settings, and I highly recommend it!

Persona 5: The Phantom X (Mobile Game)

Persona5ThePhantomXPreview 12

Despite this being a mobile game, The Phantom X did release on Steam, and it is playable on the Steam Deck. It can hit 60 FPS most of the time with some modified settings, and is quite enjoyable despite this being a mobile game.

Lost Records: Bloom and Rage (Games for Impact) (SDHQ Review)

LostRecordsBloomandRage 4

It's a little tough to run, but it should be playable with some modified settings. Expect around 30 FPS with high battery drain, and even with some compromises, the game still looks great on Steam Deck.

Rematch (Sports/Racing) (SDHQ Review)

REMATCH 6

While it doesn't look as amazing as I had hoped, it can run at 60 FPS without needing any changes on the Steam Deck.

Sid Meier's Civilization 7 (Sim/Strategy)

シヴィライゼーションVIIStock5

This is quite playable on the Steam Deck, despite it being a 4X game. Controller support is solid, 30 FPS is locked for most of the game, and it's just a joy to play.

Shinobi: Art of Vengeance (Action)

SHINOBIArtofVengeance 5

It's perfect on the Steam Deck, getting to 60 FPS and over 5 hours of battery. No complaints here!

Silent Hill f (Narrative, Audio Design, Best Performance (Konatsu Kato))

SilentHillf 4

I was actually shocked at how well Silent Hill f runs on the Deck. It needs a 30 FPS lock and some changed settings can make it look better, but this is ultimately a fantastic game that is fully enjoyable on the Deck.

Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds (Family)

SonicRacingCrossWorlds60 4

With some minor changes, Sonic Racing: CrossWorlds runs flawlessly at 60 FPS on the Steam Deck. It can handle almost max graphical quality, and while changing tracks does have some drops, it handles the bulk of the game without issue.

Sonic Rumble (Mobile Game, Sports/Racing)

SonicRumblePreview 2

Sonic Rumble is another mobile game that came to Steam, and it runs decently on the Steam Deck. It should stick to 60 FPS the whole time, though I did get some framerate spikes here and there throughout my time with it.

South of Midnight (Accessibility, Games for Impact) (SDHQ Review)

SouthofMidnightStock5

You can expect a stable 30 FPS throughout the whole game, with maybe 1 or 2 moments where it can drop 1-2 FPS. It's a great game to play on the go!

Split Fiction (Game Direction, Action/Adventure, Family, Multiplayer)

SplitFictionPreview 10

Split Fiction is just a joy on the Steam Deck. It is best played at 30 FPS, but can handle more with some compromises. I loved my time with it on Deck, so I highly recommend it.

Tempest Rising (Sim/Strategy)

TempestRisingパフォーマンス2

Performance can vary depending on how much action is happening on screen, but will generally stick around 30 FPS. It can be very resource hungry, so it may not be the best for competivive multiplayer on the go.

The Alters (Sim/Strategy) (SDHQ Review)

TheAltersSteamDeck 13

It's a heavy game overall, but is very playable on the Steam Deck. It should run at 30 FPS on the default settings, which surprised me at first. It should be great to play on the go!

The Outer Worlds 2 (RPG)

TheOuterWorlds2 感想 5

The Outer Worlds 2 actually runs better on the Steam Deck than I expected. It hits 30 FPS in closed off areas quite easily, but the open areas will have some issues. Still, I would consider this barely playable, and if you have nothing else to play on, this will suffice.

Two Point Museum (Sim/Strategy) (SDHQ Review)

TwoPointMuseumStock3

Two Point Museum can be played at 40 FPS on the Steam Deck without too much issue with some solid visuals, and is a good chunk of fun.

Umamusume: Pretty Dirby (Mobile Game)

UmamusumePrettyDirbySteamDeck

As with the other two mobile games, this runs perfectly on the Steam Deck. It is locked to 30 FPS, but battery drain is very low, and it should be perfectly playable on the go. It does feel a little odd with the UI layout, since this is a mobile game, but it's not the worst.

Virtua Fighter 5 REVO World Stage (Fighting)

VirtuaFighter5Stock3

Virtua Fighter 5 is another great fighting game for the Steam Deck. It runs like a charm at 60 FPS, with some minor drops that can happen in opening cutscenes.

Wanderstop (Games for Impact) (SDHQ Review)

WanderstopStock2

Despite needing some compromises, it performs very well at 30 FPS on the Steam Deck. You will generally get around 4 hours of battery life this way, and it's awesome.

Wuthering Waves (Mobile Game)

WutheringWavesSteamDeck

Wuthering Waves is playable on the Steam Deck, but performance can be shaky. On the Balanced preset, the game will stick to 30 FPS most of the time, but can dip into the high 20s when running around the world. Still, it is very playable on the Deck, especially in combat!

And that's how every game nominated for an award at The Game Awards is running on the Steam Deck! Most of the games here are all fantastic to play on the Steam Deck, so you should feel pretty confident that most, if not all, of the winners will be playable on the go.
