The Developers of the EVE Online Survival Sandbox Spin-Off 'EVE Frontier' are Pushing for Steam Deck Support

EVE Frontier might slip under the radar for a lot of us. It's a survival sandbox spin-off of the popular MMORPG EVE Online, ditching more traditional MMO mechanics in favor of a more hardcore survival experience, set in a "post-apocalyptic" space setting where you must scavenge for resources and expand your influence throughout the 24,000 star-system universe.

According to a report by PC Gamer, the Product Manager at developer Fenris Creations wants EVE Frontier to be compatible with the Steam Deck, made easier thanks to EVE Frontier having native gamepad support, unlike its big brother, EVE Online.

 "I wanted to get on the Steam Deck, I have one at my desk, and we're just kind of testing it out, dipping our toes in the water."

If that wasn't proof enough that Steam Deck support is hoped for, the Game Director also chimed in a little later with the following quote:

"We already have experiments running on Steam Deck. We just couldn't get it in time⁠—we want to focus on the gamepad stuff instead. The biggest problem we ran into was actually the launcher. It's not the game itself, it was just like some config files."

Both were keen to stress that nothing is confirmed at this point, with the compatibility tests seemingly being more of a personal curiosity rather than a company goal, but the fact that EVE Frontier is running on the Steam Deck internally gives us hope that when the game finally does launch, there's a decent chance it will work on the Steam Deck.
