EmuDeck Team Confirms The Project Isn't Dead And PS1 Emulation Isn't Going Anywhere

EmuDeck is one of the best ways to put emulators onto your Steam Deck. It essentially acts as a launcher, downloading and setting up a multitude of emulators from AppImages or Flatpaks, getting the most recent update, and making it easy to just get in and play. However, there haven't been a lot of updates recently, and with the EmuDeck account mentioning a new project, currently called Playnix, there has been speculation that EmuDeck is dying down. However, there is no need to fear, EmuDeck isn't going anywhere.

Over on the EmuDeck Discord server, an announcement was posted by one of the admins, senni2127u, confirming that the project is still going strong. They mention that the lead developer put a hiatus on the project to fix bugs instead of adding in new emulators and major features with big updates, and since a lot of these updates are relatively uneventful, there isn't much to talk about. So, while nothing is being said about it, it is still being worked on and hasn't been abandoned.

There has also been some concern regarding Duckstation, the PS1 emulator, no longer being actively worked on. This has led to the Flatpak for DuckStation being dead, but a new migration has been deployed to keep it going. Now, when you open EmuDeck, you will be asked to migrate to the AppImage. It isn't mandatory, but highly recommended, and it will not hurt Steam Rom Manager, ESDE, or anything. It will just be slotted in an continue working as usual.

Overall, EmuDeck is still being actively worked on, and there's no intention for it to disappear. It may seem a little slow right now, but that's only because there isn't much to discuss just yet. Bug fixes are still happening, maintenance is still ongoing, and while there may not be any major news yet, it's still going to be supported for the time being, and that's wonderful.
