Crimson Desert Quickly Returns To Its Steam Deck Unsupported Rating

I have done my fair share of bashing on Valve’s Steam Deck Verified system. It gets things wrong a lot of times, rating some games as Unsupported that work perfectly fine, while also rating some games as Verified when they have issues. I almost never go by the system and elect to test the Games myself to make sure it’s actually playable. However, I do want to praise Valve when they get things right or correct the mistakes, and that’s exactly what happened here with Crimson Desert.

A few days ago, Crimson Desert was somehow given the Verified badge. Now, the game was never an amazing experience on the Steam Deck, and while it did get better with some patches, I would never recommend playing it on the go. So, I was quite surprised when the game was given the green checkmark.

I even wrote an entire article about it yesterday, where I tested the game on the lowest possible settings with FSR 3.1 at Ultra Performance and showed the inconsistent framerate that would not usually stick to 30. And because it was on the lowest settings with the lowest upscaling, it looked as awful as it felt.

However, it seems that Valve has heard the feedback and pushback, and the game has now reverted to its Unsupported badge. After my experience with it, this is where it rightfully belongs, so I’m glad that action was taken so quickly to not mislead people into purchasing the game thinking it will be a “great experience” on the Deck.

I still think we should hold Valve accountable for the error, since this is not the first time they’ve given a rating that doesn’t actually represent the quality and performance of a game. But I also want to take a moment to praise them for quickly bringing the rating back for Crimson Desert. I don’t think it should’ve ever happened in the first place, but mistakes do happen, and I’m glad that they were on the case to make sure it was corrected with such a blatantly incorrect rating.
