Dotemu has typically been known for picking up classic franchises and bringing them back to life, but now it's their turn to develop their own IP in the form of Absolum, a new beat 'em up action RPG that is due out later in 2025.

They're working on the project with Guard Crush Games, who co-developed Streets of Rage 4 with Dotemu, as well as Supamonks.

You can check out the trailer for the game down below:

Dotemu and Guard Crush Games are bringing their beat 'em up experience from Streets of Rage 4 and TMNT: Shredder's Revenge whilst Supamonks are utilizing their animators and artists to create a "rogue 'em up" in the form of Absolum.

The game aims to have intricate and refined combat that has both depth and approachability as its aims. You'll be able to unlock new items, complete quests, get permanent upgrades while mixing different skill combinations to keep each run through the game filled with variation. There will also be branching pathways to add to the replayability.

You'll also be able to experience this fantasy journey with a friend, as the game will support 2 players in local or online co-op. As one of four rebels, you'll advance through the world of Talamh and fight against the tyrannical rule of the Sun King Azra.

Absolum is due to launch on Steam later in 2025, you can wishlist the game now. While it will have full controller support, the system requirements are currently set quite high, so we'll have to wait and see if the Steam Deck can handle this one.
